Thanks Kick.  Now that we are back in the land of working internet we will be dredging up Jimmy B. trivia.  We think the Carpenters need some kind of restrictions during the contest if anyone else is going to have a chance.  I'll bet Mike and Becky know JB's albums in the order they were released.

We had a ball sailing in the BVI, but we often thought about the upcoming CLR with great anticipation.

Wow, almost worth coming to participate in the contest since we attended the same college at the same time.  My BIL was in the same fraternity with him but I think JB quit paying his dues and was stricken from the record.:)

...I  have a daughter and a son with that same schools diploma. And another daughter with a Masters from there.  Youngest daughter went there a couple years too!  Campus really looks different after the Tornado aftermath.

I am looking doubtful for CLR - I may need to make a trip to Nebraska to see my folks, and probably more importantly, I have an offer on my boat. If all goes well there will be a new owner of Knot So Fast by next week. I will make sure the new owner knows about you guys and CLR

Oh Boy, a Jimmy Buffett trivia contest!    However, I don't know what you mean by a restraint?
We don't know anything about Buffett...? lol

Here's one: What is the name of Jimmy's first sailboat?

Everyone should probably go out and invest in a wetsuit as I don't think the rains are ever going to end!  Just looked at weather report for Carlyle and see its raining and under a tornado watch!  Rain Friday, rain Monday, ugh!!!!  Still can't use my boat as the Illinois is still closed to recreational traffic.

Steve.  Bummer.  My wife's Mother is ill, plus the company I work for part-time seems to need me to present one day out of town.  This means that I will not be able to attend clr this year.  I will remain hopeful for next year.  It sounds like a great event that I have been looking forward to for quite some time.  Being relatively new to ComPac, meeting other CP sailors in person is high on my list.  I will raise a Miller Light to the sky during clr and toast you all hoping for a safe and fun week.  Sail on and Fair Winds.       Al   (2007 CP Eclipse - Off The Wind)

sorry to hear that. hope everything works out ok. we will all raise a glass to you also. hope to see you next year. be sure to look for pics of the event. im sure lots will be posted.

i know that salty 19 probably posted info about radios----vhf and frs radios have been used in the past but everyone will get  a list of cell#s. phone service on the lake is pretty good. bring the radios if you have them though

Steve, I mentioned a radio station when I was helping to plan the event two years ago but have not said anything recently about it.  It's buried in all the old posts from that time period.

If you want folks to use them, just specify the channel here and now rather than deferring to old posts.

Also what time should we meet at the winery?  It would be helpful to provide this info now to avoid confusion on the day of.

The CLR (Carlyle Lake Rendezvous) runs through july 27 (monday) through july 31 (friday).

Participants can come for the whole week or any part of it. For those arriving, please call me upon your arrival as Sarah and I will be available to help with rigging, and launching / parking vehicles (317)292-0258).
If you arrive early enough to sail on Monday, please feel free to do so. If you need a map of the lake let me know and i will bring you one.

Monday night is the meet and greet at Bretz Winery at 7pm. The address is : 15469 IL-127, Carlyle, IL 62231

We will provide name tags and info will be passed out (for each boat) providing a complete list of sailors, their boat types and names and cell phone #s. There will also be the race rules and a map showing the race course. The race is scheduled for thursday (but might be changed to wednesday depending on weather). the night of the race is held at the marina building. it consists of dinner, a jimmy buffet trivia contest (put on by mike and brenda).

prizes will be awarded for the winner of the contest and for the best jimmy buffet "costume". trophies will also be presented at this time (always a funny photo op.). between Monday night and Thursday night the event may include a "practice race"followed by the traditional "raft up" which is an everyday event.

we may have a "night sail" for those interested (also weather permitting). each night is always capped off by a "dock party" held near our boats. folding chairs are a must. we also usually have dinner at two of the better restaurants in the area "the Keys" and Popeyes Chop House".

No one is held to a timetable and no one has to feel pressured to "race" although it is just for fun. i have purposely kept the event loose and relaxed. i have attended other events where i felt uncomfortable participating. we have a small following of 20 some sailors which i think makes it more fun and much easier to host. for those who have attended previous CLR's, it is like a reunion . i know that the new attendees will all feel welcomed by the group of great people who have attended before. See you on the water!!----any questions please call me at the above listed number.
