Steve, I edited your message to make it easier to read. I also added the winery address above in your post.

The marina this event occurs at,

WEST ACCESS MARINA

Carlyle, IL 62231

The other restaurants addresses can be given out at the time of arrival if needed.

We just untarped the boat today, and are looking forward to getting to CLR. The motor work is tomorrow!

Wednesday morning John W. Sarah and I decided to give Carlyle lake a try. Sarah and I haven't been since the lake flooded closing most of the ramps. There are 5 high water ramps on the lake and we thought West access would be the best. they had the dock put in that launching was a piece of cake, (so any clr sailors need not worry). the day turned out perfect with a very nice 10 Plus mph Northeast wind. We encountered very little debris in the lake, but it is still a good idea to watch ahead. We  anchored  for a bit for a little swim and a beer .  the water was a little on the cold side (all the rain i guess) but we stayed in for a little over an hour.  when we set sail again the wind had built up quite a bit. Sarah at the helm we sailed a reach back to point one then came about sailed to Point 18 and then the return to West access. after taking the rig down we headed over to the Wheelhouse for a burger and a beer. a good day was had by all. I just hope we have a few great sailing days like that during the CLR. cant wait to see our old friends and make some new ones. everyone be safe and practice for the big "CLR Cup" race.

Has the water come down at all? I haven't been able to get away from work for a while...

kickingbug1

they tell me that it has come down a bit but not enough for use of the regular ramps. the west access high water one is ok though----probably pretty crowded on the weekend though

My 23  will not be making the journey to CLR. Heck, I'm lucky to be making it myself!!!  The Blackburn Challenge takes place on 7/25 so I'm driving directly from Cape Ann, MA to Illinois. I'm not even sure when I'll arrive there but you can bet your last Margarita, I'll be there, Guideboat in tow. The trailer needs work and the time is not there to do the work.

kickingbug1

as long as you make it. i wasnt counting on the 23----thats a long long way.

well, I was seriously considering it and if the Blackburn and CLR weren't back to back, I'd do it. Last year there was a week between but I think the Blackburn is a bit early this year. I'll be playing stowaway on someones boat. And, the Guideboat is available for anyone who wants to get out for a row!!!!

kickingbug1

bob, there is a couple from missouri who are bringing a 23 (seems to me they just got it recently). they might benefit from your experience.  im sure any clr sailor would be happy for you to swab the poop deck for them.

I'd be honored to bring my water cannon aboard anyone's boat!

I might have to try that guideboat Bob, that way I can justify to my wife me getting one maybe.....

"Yes Ginger, I need that kind of a boat, look how strong it makes me, and how happy I was..... Wait, Ginger, no, put down that kitchen knife, no I need those in my life yet! YIKES!"

On second thought Bob, maybe I will just watch you row from the shore as I weep tears........tears of joy for you that is.

Mac:
You gotta try it! She's pretty tender at first but once you get going, you'll be surprised at the speed. I wish I could bring the 23 but I'm just lucky to be showing up at all. Will you, Ginger and your 19 be there? I'm looking to crew on someones boat.
