Well boys and girls, it's time to start thinking about the when and where of the famous Mid Winter Gathering of the East Coast Compac-o-nauts. Of course, I'd like to entice all of you to think about driving down here (NJ) where the creation of the universe began. In the past we've held this at such prestigious locations such as Lambertville, Princeton both in NJ and a few places suggested by Marty in Pennslyvania. There's plenty of time to give it some thought...I just wanted to get the ball rolling early.
I'm resisting the urge to give this epic event one of those lengthy names with all the letters and abbreviations...you know, like CLR, CBMWG, SML-CPR, HOTCR...you get the idea. So I won't. It's just the good old 5th annual reason to get together in winter, gab some, eat some, drink some and enjoy the company of some of the greatest people in the world!

wow Bob,  you really are thinking ahead on this one!   given no sudden change in employment plans ( one never knows)   janet and i will do our best to make it to the event..   we just spent some time putting new tarps over Adagio - it is a shame that she has not been in the water for a few years, but  the dreams never cease..  and in the meantime,  it is always nice to meet with you and the other compac sailor folk!    jt

Well since we got CBMWG lined up for 2/11/17 i would suggest a January date maybe not long after the holidays. Possibly MLK weekend? Many folks will have that Monday off, regardless Susan and I will mark our calendars!

Has anyone thought about Annapolis as the location for an East Coast gathering? Plenty of great places to eat, plenty of sailboats to admire on "ego row", plenty for sale.......well maybe not such a good place, could be a costly dinner for some! Last time we went to Annapolis just for fun we ended up with another boat, jus sayin.  :)

Hey Bob,   sorry to be the first to cancel on the mid winter gathering.. even before  the location and date were finalized!   Janet and I thought that we would be spending the winter here in PA, but just last week I saw an advertisement  for a workamper job  in CO..  sent a letter and two days later we were hired.. so  off we go to Colorado for the winter..  we will be back just in time to hang around here for a week or so before we head back up to Maine for our third season at Mount Desert Campground..   are you coming to visit next summer :)     we will miss the chance to get together with everyone, but will look forward to hearing all about it..    take care!   jt

Bob23

Well you considering you are one of the "originals", you will certainly be missed. Just email me your credit card info and all will be forgiven. Enjoy Colorado...of course, I'm planning to visit Maine soon, just gotta get the damn monkey "work" off my back.
Best to you both!!

Well Tim that may be true....unless we attend this year! We are currently in training for Holiday beer consumption and will be at professional level capabilities by January. (Actually we tend to take January as a time to not have any beers but for such a gathering we will make an exception!)

Glad to hear you are getting out. Smith Mountain Lake is a wonderful place and I am sure you guys are relishing the now nonexistent tourists! You do have your calendar marked for the 2/11/17 CBMWG i assume.  :)

If I could be so bold... the Admiral thinks April would be better. Wouldn't have to wear so many layers! She thinks it should be a "kick-off" for the new sailing season. I reminded her it's to remember the previous one (on the other hand, some of us, namely yours truly, probably would rather forget it!). In any event, any time, any place, we'll be there (or at least try). How about Pat's Pizza and Bistro in Levittown, PA? About a 5 minute walk for me! JUST KIDDING! Maybe Bob could try to get the Moshulu again. This from their web posting: "New American meals & Sunday brunch buffet on a renovated 4-masted ship with an outdoor bar." We could pass on the "outdoor" bar.

Pass on the bar??? May it never be!!!  I was also thinking Moshulu. But I'd rather not wait till spring for a mid winter gathering. Since MAS is planning the CBMWG for 2/11/17, we could look at earlier in February or early March. What see ye, merry gents and ladies? Since we are having this discussion, let's get an idea of who will be wanting to attend this epic event and what dates would work?

Bob, you do me a wrong: I wrote "We could pass on the "outdoor" bar." with emphasis on the outdoor. Dark & Stormy's ought to be the official drink of BBB's.

Checking her schedule, March 11th (or 12th) looks good for the Admiral. I'm available 24/7/365! Looking forward to hearing the tales of those who successfully completed the arduous voyage across the troubled waters of the Barnegat Bay.

The Winter Solstice has just passed... can't wait for the Spring Solstice. Look! the sun actually has come out today!!

A very Merry Christmas to all you BBB'ers and MWG'ers! I'd like to propose March 11th, 2017 as the date for the 5th annual Mid Winter Gathering! What say ye? I figured, the way time flies, it'll be here before we know it! I'm still leaning toward Moshulu only because it's on the water but I'm open to suggestions. I was originally toying with a place really near my house but that would seem selfish on my part and you all know how self sacrificing I am!!
Blessed Christmas to all!!
