The 7th is a definite no go for us, but the 13th looks like a good potential.  If it does end up on the 13, and all goes well, expect us.

Hey Larry, we are definitely a go for the August 13th date. It's a Saturday and will get the details as we get closer. Cookout under one of the pavilions at Regent Point. Trips out to Parrot island so bring a small craft if wished, sailing or rowing dinghy, canoes, kayaks and the like! A great easy trip, well before the beer anyway! The mid winter gathering was much fun and with veterans returning this'll be epic as well!

Sorry have not been too active as of late but we have been in major boat world. PeterG, Richard and my self moved No Mas' big sister to her slip just before the 4th weekend. Much fun, even with a little 3 hour sail the opposite direction from our intend course so we could get to a marina with Yanmar parts. Threw an alternator belt and it took out the water pump belt. Got spares on board now! Had a nice stay in Solomons as a result.

So between our two boats have been gone a bunch and heading back down tomorrow. Getting that larger "floataminium" hole has made all the difference in Susan being able to come down and us having a place to stay. Hoping to take No Mas out tomorrow if the wind holds. Summer sailing, such an oxymoron. Summer cookouts on the other hand are not! We are now just about a month away from the CBMSG and still planning to round up some new faces. Looks like Larry and Dave will help in that category! Also as mentioned we are encouraging all first mates (Admirals really!) to come so Susan and Becky aren't holding that position down on their own! Make sure the calendars are marked with the August 13th CBMSG event and lets promise to not scare any new folks away!

As we get a little closer everyone weigh in on the cookout particulars, mostly are we trying to coordinate a meal or simply everyone brings a picnic basket type meal. There are grills there, shaded and covered pavilions with picnic tables, chairs, ice available and obviously the usual marina facilities so either works. We are liking the idea of a small craft gathering as there are some nice destinations very kayakable, rowable close by. We will have a little dingy for a foray.

Bob, a really nice fella with an incredible tug, (only power boat there) goes rowing almost every morning. You will have company out there feathering away!

Gotta go and will touch bases towards end of next week when we return.

Just remember, Chesapeake Bay in the heat of the summer.  It is likely to be hotter than hell on the cookout day.  You may want some area to seek refuge from the heat that has AC.

Hey Heave, we can make that call closer to the date. The Willaby's location is an easy enough switch. The pavilions are covered and shaded but point taken. Imma thinking it is going to be a wonderful day, but nice to have plan B!

Went down to the boat and had no wind till the day I left. It sure was hot for those few days last week. Little projects kept me busy.

I agree on the hot.  I will probably be out cruising again from September 19-29.  Not sure where I am heading but Solomon's Island is calling my name.  Then again, I haven't been to Tangier in a few years.

Hopefully you guys will see the smaller version of me.  I have started running again, about 6 weeks ago.  2 miles every other day in this heat is a bit nuts but it does work.

I will say that it is a nice area down there.  Then again, that darn route 3 bridge really irked me when I sailed through it to Urbanna.  It looks like it is close and you have miles and miles to go.

Next time you are down that way you gotta head over to the Corrotomon . It is such a nice anchorage and beach. Don't worry about the bridge, it is 110 feet up on the center span at mean high water! You could stack three Saga's up and still clear!

OBTW Heave we stopped in Solomons Md. on the way from Annapolis, nice place. Was a good way point for us.

Solomons is one of my Favorites.  They have the $2 a day dingy dock, great holding, great restaurants, a Food Lion that isn't horribly far from the Dingy Dock (especially by folding bike).  It is a great town with friendly people.  It can be loud in the summer on weekends with the motorcycles, the Tiki Bar, and other things but it is a gem.  There are two of the best marinas that I have found on the bay if you go to a marina.  One is Spring Cove Marina and the other is Zanheizers.

I wasn't worried about height, it just seemed like it took forever to get under and past that darn bridge.  It was also in the way and it caused me to sail a bit deeper into the wind than I usually like to with the Asymmetrical Spinnaker.

If you look through my video you will see me sail under the bridge with spinnaker up:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqDQ1VHNwVM

My Uncle told me about the Corrotomon and it was a place where I debated going when I went to Urbanna.  The wind went to the nose and it built to be a lot higher than it was supposed to be.  I motored into Urbanna because I got tired of tacking up river against the current.

I really like Deltaville too.  I am saddened to see, as I have also witnessed in Solomons Island, the decline of some of the restaurants and businesses.  Deltaville had a good pizza place that closed.  One really nice place to look in Deltaville is the nautical consignment shop.  You can get a lot of good stuff there for a reasonable price.

I am looking forward to the meet-up.  I wish I could have sailed down to it but that would be too time consuming and, at this time of year, a lot of running the motor.  Having a destination that is a time deadline is a bad idea unless you like to motor!

We stayed at Zanheizers. Nice place, reasonable transient dockage, nice bath house, shade.

Sorry thought you were talking clearance on the bridge. Yeah it is visible as soon as you round up into the Rivah but it is at least 8km away. You're right it seems to take forever, mostly cause you keep looking at it, kinda like watching a clock. It takes forever!

This sounds like fun and I just might be able to talk the Admiral into attending. I've been telling her how nice the area is down your way. Also sounds like a great adventure as well to bring our new Takacat Lite Dinghy down. :D

Any info on places to stay overnight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey Kevin, glad to hear! Will do some checking around on places to stay nearby. I know there is a motel right at the little private airport also just down the road. Not fancy but seems nice, right off of Rt.3 after the Norris bridge. Actually have been tempted to go for a bi plane ride from there! Who knows maybe they will give a group discount if more wish to stay.

Def get the admiral on board! Susan and Becky might need some fellow admirals to help keep us cabin boys in line!

Will look into some other spots as well.

Indeed the "the game is afoot" and the next line from Sherlock Holmes was  "Not a word! Into your clothes and come!"

So here is the contact info for The Pilot House Inn:

Address: 2737 Greys Point Rd, Topping, VA 23169
Phone: (804) 758-2262

Old fashioned kind of place, seems clean and simple. Microwave, small fridge, etc. Will check for others but this is literally on the way in to either the Regent point Marina if we are there for food, which is the plan, unless weather moves us to Willaby's which is just before Pilot House on Northern side of bridge.

$65 a night on weekends. Breakfast all you can eat buffet in morning if you are in to that. Think that is around $10ish.

Will check in to some other options, though they may be a bit further afield.

Ok as we suffer through the summer doldrums we can at least look forward to many events including the CBMSG on August 13th. Here is an update to the event. It appears that our little Marina's Sailboat club had also scheduled their annual "Cheeseburger in Paradise" event for the same day, usually starts around 4ish. Go figure. We are new members of that little group as well and here is what could be a perfect match for our gathering. The club will be providing cheeseburgers, fries, sodas, good selection of beer and wine and music. Everyone is to bring a side to match the fare, usually they assign different docks to different sides but nothing as of yet other than something to go with "Cheese Burger in Paradise". The only other thing that would be required is a fee for non-members which will be between $5-10. Heck that's a deal by any standard just in beer alone! (Bob you are going to have to work hard to drink the last beer here!)

Also suggested that we could have dinghy races! We also don't have to wait until 4 to gather.

So wuddaya think? Sounds like this could be a good union.

Shall I plan on drinking all the beer again???
