Scott,
One thing you need to know about Florida sailing.....if you get into trouble, just get out and walk!

I am kindding, kinda. I think the biggest challange will be trailering from Ft. Worth to FL. Once you get here you should be fine. These boats were made to be sailed right here on the west coast of Florida.

Billy

PS. I spoke with Rich Hutchens at the St. Pete boat show and he said that he would be glad to host a tour of the factory. He just asked that we give him a heads up. So, I should ask, what day would be the best for the tour?

Should we set up another poll?

Just posted in the other thread...

Factory Tour? Rich gave the A-OK. He just asked that we give him a heads up on the date. I think a month should be more than enough notice.

Any ideas for a specific date?

Scott,
Don't worry about the shallow water, you'll be fine.  I've never heard an old salt lament about how he sailed too much, or that he took his kids on too many vacations.  There will be plenty of other ComPacs out, and if they can do it, you can follow.

Billy and Bert...

Thank you so much for the quick reply.  I am glad to hear you say I am not thinking to big here...I am in.  That's all I needed.  Actually May 5th is my birthday as well and simply seems fitting.  I need an adventure and not worried about the drive down...that will simply be part of the journey.

Love the idea of the tour and very glad it seems like it might be possible to make this happen.  Thanks Billy.

Ok...now to prepare the boat AND trailer.

Re: Factory Tour

Our Com Pac 2014 Florida Rendezvous is currently scheduled for Monday through Friday, May 5 - 9, 2014.

Folks attending from NEAR and FAR will be quite busy launching and arriving at our first Rendezvous Point, which I'm assuming will be Caledesi Island State Park Marina, ideally suited for conveniently getting acquainted, exchanging ideas, and discussing Com Pac Sailboats. This will take all day Monday. Hopefully a communal Pot Luck can be planned for the evening meal. With the benefit of LOCAL KNOWLEDGE and SHORT RANGE WEATHER FORCAST, plans for the remaining cruising itinerary should be discussed and agreed upon.

With boats prepped for multiple days of cruising, it would be prudent to get the most out of our limited time together by staying together as long as possible and not interrupt the itinerary midstream for a Factory Tour. Besides, it would be quite inconvenient for those who might have to trailer their boats temporarily only to launch again after the Tour to rejoin the Group. A lot of LOST "together time".

A Factory Tour scheduled for the LAST weekday, FRIDAY, May 9, 2014, (preferably early afternoon) seems to make the most sense in that it would have the advantage of allowing participants to stay together cruising for most of the week. Those interested in the Factory Tour could leave the Group and trailer their boats a little earlier in preparation for the trip back home.

I like that, perhaps we could ask Rich or Gerry for a "bad weather rain advance". Only in the event that if we do get some bad weather, we could pull the boats mid week and take the tour. Otherwise schedule it for the last day.

Maybe for all the T. S. newbies a new thread," Countdown to the Flight" is in order. Kind of a checklist thread. Like "It's Dec. This is what you should be doing now to get ready to Fly".

Carl, I would merge them, but last time I did that, it didn't work and lost one of the threads.

But I can lock one of the posts so people can't post in that one anymore.

Shall I do that?

I just noticed that the West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron is having their annual Cedar Key Small Boat Event on May 2-4th. Somebody already mentioned this group earlier in this thread, but wanted to add some information about this small sailboat event. If anybody is planning to be in the area earlier than our event the following week this would be a great event to attend. The event always has a lot of very nice small sailboats. Most of the entire weekend is unplanned and fun! The location is Cedar Key Florida which is on the West Coast of Florida about 115 miles north of the Tarpon Springs area of our planned launch site for our Florida get together. Check it out at the sailing squadron web site http://members.ij.net/wctss/wctss/dates.htm or the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce at http://www.cedarkey.org/lodging.php . The Small Boat Event information can be found on their events page. Cedar Key is really cool small island community with a lot of local history. Lots of nice art and crafts, restaurants in a rural Florida small town. It would be a great stop over point for those traveling long distances. There are very few motels so book early if you are interested. Check out the Island Hotel or Harbour Master Suites as these are both great! I live really close and will provide any assistance I can. It is a great place if you like water and sunshine!
I am not trying to hijack the thread or our get together, this is just a real nice event which some might enjoy! Hope you can make it!
