Hi thrillseekers,
New to CPYOA and am thrilled  to have a com-pac 16. In a welcome note to me from Bob23 in nj , he asked if i had decided on a boat name. Heres the rub. My junior grade cabin girl apprentice ( she started out as admiral, but after helping me launch .......)would be ok with the yacht named after her ,you know the drill- remove existing name-apply wifes name. While i may be relegated to doing this , and i am ok with that , i had 2 other names i am considering. The first is from "the chronicles of thomas covenant" ----"Foamfollower". The second one came to me in a flash of inspiration-something female that also says a love of sailing-----"Margaret Mitchell". I think its easier to name a child. no, i take that back. i wanted to name my son william robert so i could call him billybob, but someone had veto power. You guys are amazing, any ideas?

the 'funny' names generally make me cringe.

whatever you do name it for a woman. the really good ones are rare and deserve the honor
oday 14 daysailor, chrysler musketeer cat, chrysler mutineer, com-pac 16-1 "kicknbug" renamed "audrey j", catalina capri 18 "audrey j"

I picked  ' Comfort & Joy ' from the Christmas song that I was kind of sort of singing one day. No other reason. Well it works well on the VHS when calling the bridge for an opening or hailing my sailing friends on channel 16.

--> KZQ 3418, Comfort & Joy, Comfort & Joy, Comfort & Joy calling the down town Michigan Street bridge, Michigan Street bridge, Michigan Street bridge. Over. <--

Proper radio calls with appropriate squelch and power are important and must be long enough for scanners to lock on to and  listeners to easily respond to. Not a response from the bridge, " The boat calling the bridge". What good is that?

I bought Arion fully intending to change the name.  My wife happened to be reading the Jolly Mon story to my Grandson, three at the time, and it is loosely based on the Mythological character Arion, who was the poet/musician of the kingdom of Corinth.  While Jimmy Buffet (who I went to college with although we weren't friends) took many liberties with the story, Grandson was enthralled by it.  Name of the boat did not get changed...:)

Hello everyone!  Regarding names; My 16, "Puff", came to me with her name.  After much thought about renaming.... and removing the old lettering,  I chose a new typeface to apply.
"Puff" it is!  ( I think she likes it because she is outside the kitchen window smiling in at me now!)
Do any of you live near Rockingham, NC?
Have a great day, and be safe!

Why don't you ask the boat what she'd like to be named? Then get back to us. Mine was "Septembers Love" when I bought her. Kinda makes you want to barf, right? Her name now is "Koinonia". She's happy with it. Told me so herself.

MY FIRST MATE  AND MYSELF HAVE SAILED TOGETHER FOR TEN YEARS.  IT IS ONLY RIGHT FOR MY 16 TO BE NAMED AFTER HER.      HUSSIE II.  HUSSIE I OR JUST HUSSIE IS A BORDER COLLIE  WHO STILL, AFTER A LONG DAYS SAIL, LEANS AGAINST FURNITURE THE WALL OR WHATEVER TO DEAL WITH HER SEA LEGS.

Our 1st boat was name "Parley" by our daughter because she was there during the price negotiations.  Our 15'r is "long summer daze".  An old Moody Blues song and because when I sail her, she brings me back to my youth of long, endless summer days spent on the water.  The next boat we named "Sur La Mer" or "On The Sea".  The title of a Moody Blues album.  (yes, my favorite group)  Our Compac will be named "Miss Adventures" because, well, if you were to hear of my sailing exploits, it wouldn't need an explanation.

Oriental, "The Sailing Capitol of North Carolina".

1985 Compac 19/II  "Miss Adventure"
1986 Seidelmann 295  "Sur La Mer"

So many boat names here are very inspiring!   They conjure up great images and possible scenarios in my imagination! (As they do in yours as well, I'm sure!)

When I think I should have renamed mine, I console myself by thinking, what if my husband wanted to rename me?  Sort of like; great girl, bad name.... I love her enough to commit to her but that name has to go!

Hey, wait!  My name did change~!

OK, I admit, I do consider the option of change.  In the future when I gain the courage, (and the money,) to completely overhaul "Puff", she may emerge from the garage with a new identity!

I think I should stop thinking about this now. I should be working ON the boat.  Our impending maiden voyage together will hopefully be soon!

Good luck to you ltmatthews! I look forward to seeing what you choose!
I can't help but say - I hope everyone stays safe today and tomorrow. Prayers are ongoing for all.

Jill:
I like the name Puff. Conjurs up memories of the old Peter, Paul and Mary song "Puff the magic dragon" although puff in relation to the wind is my first thought.
Contrary to someones wrong conclusion here a few years ago, my boat is not named after the Koinonia farm or cummune in Georgia...or wherever it is. It is a greek word found in the new testament meaning a deep level of fellowship between God and man. My boat is where Father and I have our greatest conversations!

 I like that Bob23!!!

Hi Bob,
    Like Puff?  Thanks.
    Koinonia. Fellowship. Beautiful!
You must be a lovely person indeed!

Bob23

Don't know about that...some here would say I'm a curmudgeony old fart. Others that know me better might not be that kind. I still like the name Puff.

Even the most cantankerous and opinionated have "lovely" in them somewhere!

I hope all are well! ~ Boats and their humans too!

I am going to dig through the archives for some 16 interior later this morning.  Now; going out to paint the boot stripe!

Great day to all!
