Well we just wasted 15 hours of driving to look at a 19 near Cincinnati that was represented as "The best CP 19 in 9 states."  I guess what one person considers "really nice" can vary by a wide margin.  Loose and broken maststep, rudder pins shot, most of the teak needed replacement, stainless steel bolts used for several missing pins, running rigging rotted, trailer winch shot, bottom paint gone, old tired sails, and worst of all the hull was so weathered it would need to be repainted.  We found out the pictures used in the ad were borrowed from another boat for sale ad in TX.

On the good side Brenda and I enjoyed the drive and side trips along the way and we got an education in looking over a 19.

So, we are asking you to keep an eye and ear out for 19's that are for sale.  Our budget is $6k.  If you know of one please send us a PM so we can check into it.  We live in southern WI, but we will certainly travel within 600 miles to find the right boat.  We understand that in our price range most boats will have needs and issues.  Those are fun to take care of, but I just don't want to look at any more misrepresented boats.  Note:  I keep a close watch on Craiglook.com, but hope to widen the net a bit.

Steve,

That is the ad that the guy "borrowed" some of his pictures from.  Unbelievable.  Thanks for the link, but I don't think I want to travel and tow that far.

Now I know where the pics came from.

I would be patient Mike.  It'll come.  I was considering going to look at two 19's before my 23 was put on the market almost in my back yard and I couldn't help myself.  One was the boat that Salty 19 bought (I think that is a great boat) and another much older was in Austin, TX, and was on  the market for $7500 but it had brand new sails, a big advantage.  Actually made an appointment to see the one in Austin but bought the 23 before it happened.

Yes she did.  I don't know if it was my crying or relentless whining that convinced her, but it worked.  I thought she was going to change her mind when she saw the boat yesterday.  If that was the best I could afford she wasn't going to be too impressed.

I have tendered an offer on another one already.  Crossing my fingers.

The offer I made on a CP19 has been accepted and I am going to leave to pick it up (after a final inspection) tomorrow night.  If all goes well I will be towing it home Wednesday.  Another 7 - 8 hour drive one way.  The boat is an '88 that has been owned by one guy for over 20 years.  He never moored it and always stored it indoors.  You can sure tell when someone takes pride and cares for their boat.  A couple pics below.

Now the hard part will be to sell our wonderful 16.

Beautiful, Mike: Looks hardly used at all. Just one problem...what are you gonna build next? It doesn't look like she needs much.
What's the deal with your 16? Upon recently doing some work on my truck (2001 Tundra) I discovered some frame rust. Apparently this is a big problem that Toyota for the most part is ignoring. I may need to sell the 23 to help finance a new (used) truck. I refuse to go into debt so any purchase will be cash and hopefully some $ left over for another boat. I hope it doesn't come to this but I pull a large trailer with the truck and it might be nice if the frame didn't break in half. That can ruin one's day, eh?
Sorry for the off-topic rant. And, seriously, your 19 is a beauty. My thanks to the Admiral for giving in. She'll love it...sails a bit flatter than the 16. Not implying that she's afraid of a heeling sailboat!

Pretty boat Mike, but I can see where you will have mixed emotions about giving up Puppy Luff.

Mike and Brenda--Congrats in advance on the new boat (is this bad luck to wish you this before picking it up??).
It does look to be in nice shape!

I can smell the fiberglass resin for the new rudder now...

Beautiful boat Mike.

I hope it doesn't come to this but I pull a large trailer with the truck and it might be nice if the frame didn't break in half. That can ruin one's day, eh?

As an ex welder (one of my first jobs) I would suggest a day under that thing with some 12 ga. scab plates and a welding machine.:)  I did have a 24 year old Datsun (pre Nissan, before they knew that was a funny looking dog) that I finally had to retire not because the engine and running gear was bad, but because the anticipation of what would fall off next from rust, and how important that item might be, created too much anxiety.

damn another 19 at the rendezvous, couldnt be sweeter----get on the rudder.

So Mike...any news on the new boat?  Was she as worthy as she sounded?

Too bad about the boat in Cincy...why do people lie like that??????
