Anyone know what happened to David (dserrell) and all of his posts? All of his great posts were either deleted yesterday or replaced with just the number "1". What a waste! A lot of great information was lost. Also, his username now only shows up as "Guest".

David, you out there?

Does anyone here know one of the admins here? If David's account was compromised, the data should be able to be restored with a database back up.

Greg, That is strange.  I noticed his pics are gone from the yahoo forum too.

David, I hope all is well with you.

You know, I received an email today.  It came from the 'CPYOA' or at least it claimed to.  It confused me so I didn't respond it.  It stated something like I would not receive any more posts or notifications until I responded to it.

Did anyone else get one of those emails?  Was it legit?  I wonder if that email could have something to do with this?

kchunk

He's dropped off the grid...

I don't really know what the "the grid" is, but it sure seems like he's dropped off it.

Bob, I'd be interested in seeing that email. Care to copy and paste it here?

OkieBob

Greg,

I looked at the email again.  I think it is legit.  I recently changed my user preferences on this site.  It seems to just be a notification that there is a new topic.  The warning that confused me, was that it wouldn't send me anymore notifications until I returned to the board and read the posts.  Sorry for the false alarm.

I am concerned about David though.  Are those '1' posts gone now too?  I notice them earlier, but haven't seen any just recently.

You, know I just got finished watching "It's a Life Wonderful Life".  It's as if not just George Bailey but David was never born.  What the heck is going on here??
Never have seen this before on web forums...

Okie Bob, I would search the source before I would believe it is legit. I have never gotten an email from this website. As for the wipe the slate clean- I wonder if it was done by a professional hacker. That looks like some things I have seen IT pro's do. I can only guess why....

I sent an email to David's yahoo email address this morning.  No answer yet.

I get email all the time to notify me when someone has replied to a topic I started or that I am watching.  The legitimate sender is register.cpyoa@gmail.com.   Caution is always advisable when going through your email.  I never use embedded links in email.  I never reply to email with account information of any kind.

If anyone does find out what happened to Dave I hope you will post that information...

To me it sounds like a virus. Deleting all of your own posts and all of your pictures would be a lot of work for no reason. For someone to "hack" it all and delete everything would also be a lot of work. You would really need to tick someone off, and he seems like a nice guy. But it wouldn't be too hard to program a virus that went through all of the cookies and saved passwords in your browser and delete all your postings since so many of the message boards use the same software.

I don't know enough about e-mail to do those things listed below by Steve Ullrich. So I never ask that I be notified by what I'm posting about.

I have no idea what "embedded" means.

"He's gone from SailboatOwners.Com also." Hummmm Maybe the CIA reinstated him as 'Master Spy'.

That took out the Yahoo account. Did he post on the Yahoo Com-Pac Yacht Owners site?

I do know after my computer took a dump a couple of times that all my 'favorites' were lost. Includes CPYOA.

So maybe David (dserrell) gave up his 'membership' here by dumb thumbing the keyboard or for some other reason and now he's knocking but can't get back in.

I'd go to the Start menu-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore...
and go back about the day before this all started and click on a date and let her restore.

FUNNY THE OTHER DAY A Window popped up asking if I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 ? So like a dummy I did. When the computer restarted to start that program I could not get onto the internet. So I System Restored back to normal. I hate it when MSN does that crap.

skip.

I think a virus is a legit concern, but to wipe out an identity...I still have to ask "why?" Did a virus use his computer, and all the boards recognized the virus and kicked him off? Unless an moderator sheds light on this I guess we will never know....The reason I suspect a IT pro is that I have seen one do this to a hacker that was getting out of hand. That kind of knowledge could be used in a bad way I guess. But once again Why?
Dave, if your around- write a letter or use some else's logon.

OkieBob

Steve,

The email I received was from register.cpyoa@gmail.com, and it appears legit.  I had changed my notification settings recently, and it was the first time I received one of those.
