we are restoring this 1998 CP 16cb for solo sailing
so
>boom is at fixed mast attachment
>no cunningham or main luff downhaul, except for reefing
>halyards are internal in mast
>have tried to raise mainsail all the way up
! CAN NOT quite do it (are we puny?)...
so main's luff is with wrinkles, since there are no further 'adjusters'...YUCK

a bit o'help with suggestions (possible pics)
1.) main halyard arrangement for solo sailing
2.) how to best muscle up that main...include using more 'hardware'

thanks

The factory rigging provided EXTERNAL halyards. PO might have made the modification, and I'd look to that as the possible cause of your problems getting a full hoist. If it is not the proper sail, could be that the luff is too long. Check to see if the head is all the way to the top of the mast, or not. The main on that boat should be easy to raise, so check that the slides are the proper size - too small and they will tend to jam in the track. Spray some dry lubricant in the track.

A 16 was my first boat back in 1979, and I've had four more since including my current 23 pilothouse. They have all proven to be true to their design purpose and very durable. They don't have bad sailing behavior like many designs that try to be the "do-all be-all" boats that don't perform beyond the boat show.
