Hi, folks,

I plan to go to the New Bern area on Saturday morning. Yeah, it might rain. Still, I gotta get outta the house. Anyway, I'll stay over for Sunday sailing also.

If you are going to be out, let me know. Maybe we can sail together, or alongside, or if it's Charlie or Terry, I can try to keep up and not have yawl lap me, har har.

Indeed it is hot. I wanted to take my Windrider out this week, but....Anyway, I'll be down there hoping it's not terrible. Catch you another time, maybe.

Hello All, I am assuming you guys went out on the Neuse last weekend (Jun 25).

We are bringing our 19 down for the first time this coming weekend and staying at the Fairfield Harbour area.

Any tips for the sailing in that area? Reviewed charts on Active Captain a good bit, but was hoping for some local knowledge. We've only sailed on our local lake.

Take Care,
Jeff

Hi, Jeff,

I wish I was going to be down there, but I am not.

With your draft, you will be fine. You should just stay in the channel to get out of NW Creek, and then go where the wind wants you to. I have a chart and charbook, which I hardly ever use. Lately, I have been using Skipper on my iphone or ipad to track where I go, and look up later to see the names of things.

BTW, the next creek down from NW Creek on same side of the river is Upper Broad Creek, where Blackbeard Sailing Club is, and the one after that is also a nice one to explore.

What I usually to is just go out on the Neuse and see what happens. You can go down river to Minnesot and to Oriental if the winds cooperate.

Maybe Charlie or one of the other guys in the area will kick in some additional info.

Hey Folks:
I was thinking about going out on Monday for a couple of days.  No particular place in mind..though I might try Clubfoot Creek since I have never been there, and may be a night in South River.

Upper Neuse is a great place to sail.  Some folks spend the whole day just sailing between the Highway Bridge and the RR Bridge.  There are two snags or pilings just north of the Highway Bridge just off of Sandy Point.  I am surprised that a power boat has not taken  them out.  I stay nearby the channel in NW Creek and Upper Broad Creek.  However across from Blackbeard's YC and on down some the anchoring is good and somewhat sheltered.  Only place that I have run aground solidly is between Fl "G" #24 and Black Beacon Point, duh! I just was not paying attention (though I have seen two other boats bump the bottom there).

There are two good ramps and parking at Union Point.  Also some public docks around the point near the Trent River (Cunningham) Draw Bridge.  I do not know anything about the public docks except that are not used much and not very well protected from most wind directions.  Oh Yeah, the Grand Marina allows temporary docking for free if you want to visit New Bern.  The Grand Marina is on the right after passing though the Cunningham Bridge.

Otherwise there is plenty of depth, 3.5 + feet for a C-27.

Smooth Sailing

Hey Bruce, sorry I didn't see you, I was out for a little while around Oriental.  Sounds like quite a few Com-Pacs are showing up on the Neuse.  Jeff, I saw your comment on the Neuse, I can't add much to what the others have told you except you will love the Neuse.  Maybe at sometime or other all of us will cross courses.  tj

TJ, good to hear from you. I didn't go much down river, basically was just in front of Upper Broad Creek, maybe as far as the next creek (Goose?).

Sometime, though, I might get a chance to head down your way. Maybe we can coordinate a bit.
