I am curious about how others cruise their Compac so here we go!

1.  Do you stay overnight on your boat?

2.  If so, do you anchor out or go into a marina?

3.  What is the longest trip you have taken on your Compac?

4.  Have you made any cruising upgrades for creature comforts?

5.  What is the farthest that you have cruised from home?

6.  Have you ever faced weather delays while cruising?

7.  Do you have any future plans for cruising?

8.  Do you have any advice for other cruisers with Compacs?

1.  Do you stay overnight on your boat?
Yes, Frequently.

2.  If so, do you anchor out or go into a marina?
I anchor out mostly.  I don't believe that I have taken my Compac into a marina yet.

3.  What is the longest trip you have taken on your Compac?
7 days.  I have been to Solomons Island three times already.  I was stuck there for 3-4 days last season due to weather.

4.  Have you made any cruising upgrades for creature comforts?
Yes, a lot of upgrades.  I have upgraded most of the systems on the boat and I have added pressurized water, solar chargers, upgraded house bank, VHF, GPS, Re-done all the wiring on the boat, etc.

5.  What is the farthest that you have cruised from home?
Solomons is about 50 miles from my home port.  I had plans to go farther but I haven't been able to do it yet.

6.  Have you ever faced weather delays while cruising?
Often.  Last year I was holed up in Solomons for a few days.  It has happened with other boats as well.  It is usually high wind and waves that keeps me in port.

7.  Do you have any future plans for cruising?
Yes, I have three weeks off coming up in a few weeks.  I am not making concrete plans but I may go to Annapolis.  There are so many places to go to in my area that I can really just go depending on weather forecasts.

8.  Do you have any advice for other cruisers with Compacs?
Yes, just go out and cruise.  The boats are build well and they can be cruised.  Find some good cruising waters, study the charts, Active Captain, and other resources.  The best way to learn, though, is to go out and go sailing.  Who knows where you may end up!

1. Yes, four or five times a year.
2. Always anchor out.
3. Four nights
4. too many to list.
5.From navy shipyard marina in Pensacola, about a 35 mile loop cruise.
6. No, not with this boat
7. No specific plans at this time, but thinking of relocating the boat to a Gulf Coast marina to cruise it in a new area.
8. Go cruise overnight, keep a log of things that are difficult or irritating, then move corrective action for those items to the top of your project list.

Hey Heave too:

1.  Do you stay overnight on your boat?  Yes, In the 2.5 years that we have had windrunner we have used it 153 days.  Of those days probably 140 of them have been overnighters.

2.  If so, do you anchor out or go into a marina? Have done both.  Tend to go to free places.

3.  What is the longest trip you have taken on your Compac? Without stopping probably around 40nm.  With overnight stopping, around 356 (Albermarle Loop)

4.  Have you made any cruising upgrades for creature comforts? It is a '86.  So I have fixed all the stuff that was on the boat: autohelm, depth, log, water system, etc......I have added a handheld gps mounted on wheel guard and wired into the boat electrics.  Removed the roller furling and added a storm hood with dorade guard (great hand hold). Also just added a boom kicker replacing the topping lift.

5.  What is the farthest that you have cruised from home?  Around 100nm.

6.  Have you ever faced weather delays while cruising?  I probably should have!

7.  Do you have any future plans for cruising? Okarcoke,Washington, Wilmington, Beaufort, Cape Lookout

8.  Do you have any advice for other cruisers with Compacs?  Keep the (working on) to (sailing ) ratio less than 1, hopefully way less than one.

4.  Have you made any cruising upgrades for creature comforts? Yep....too many to list

5.  What is the farthest that you have cruised from home? 2700 miles

6.  Have you ever faced weather delays while cruising? Often

7.  Do you have any future plans for cruising? Yep :)....lots

On the 16...

1.  Do you stay overnight on your boat? Yes

2.  If so, do you anchor out or go into a marina? Anchor out

3.  What is the longest trip you have taken on your  ComPac ? A little over 100nm, 6 days sailing.

4.  Have you made any cruising upgrades for creature comforts? Not really, but some shade while underway would be awesome!

5.  What is the farthest that you have cruised from home? 40nm from the trailer.

6.  Have you ever faced weather delays while cruising? Yes, but usually just a few hours, then I just put on the foulies and off I go...lake sailing so not as weather dependent.

7.  Do you have any future plans for cruising? Love cruising, I like going places, sailing from point A to B, the planning process each night as you decide what needs to be done the next day then adjusting as you go. Sailing in circles is fine with good company and a few beers.

8.  Do you have any advice for other cruisers with Compacs? Get started with what you have, do a night, build on what you learn, then go a little farther each time. Planning is everything. All you really need is an adventuresome spirit, patience, and a sound boat (with good ground tackle). The rest you will figure out in terms of what works best for you.
