Twas a hard decision to not attend this great event, but I'm running extremely low on time off this year due to needing the time off for medical reasons.
Which is a shame because that really took a bite of doing much of anything this year in the way of traveling.

We love hanging out with you guys, and will be mixing up Lime Bites in honor of CLR that week. No doubt we'll miss being out there with everyone as we always look forward to it.

Oh and Bob, there will be a box of fresh cannolis waiting for your friends from the best italian bakery this side of the Appalachians.  My mouth is watering just thinking about them.  I also put a couple of nice ladies watch in the box so they have a gift for their old ladies when they get back, so tell them to pay no attention to the ticking and just enjoy the cannolis! Delizioso!

Don't count Brenda and I out completely.  If we can find a secure place to keep Wrinkles we will make every effort to join in the fun at CLR once again.  We hope to be in a marina somewhere near Punta Gorda for the hurricane season. This would allow us the freedom to rent a car for a trip north.  A visit to Carlyle Lake would be high on our list of stops.  So sorry to hear Mike and Becky won't be there.  We miss those guys.

Mike and Becky - we will probably swing by Columbus, OH to see our son as well.  We'll call you when we are in town to get together.

See? This is how we work here in N J. A little "pressure", an offer you can't refuse... Hope you guys can make it. Mike and Brenda: Remember "Frisky"? The Suncat? His real name is Don, he's sorta active here and used to sail his Suncat in Charlotte Harbor. He's a local and may have some info on where to keep "Wrinkles". He's a great and very helpful guy who I had the pleasure of meeting while we visited our daughter who used to live in Punta Gorda.  I'm sure you could PM him. Meanwhile, I've let Rocko know you may be getting the message...he'll back off!!!!

I feel it is fair to warn anyone who is thinking about attending this years CLR for the first time and what you might expect: You will meet fellow Compac-o-nauts for the first time that you'll feel you've known for years. You will meet some ordinary folks who are anything but and some of these people will become friends for life. You will probably laugh so hard that your sides may hurt for weeks. And you will learn lots about your boat and about sailing in general. In fact, this meeting of some of the finest people on earth may possibly reprioritize your thinking as to what's really important in life. Just in case you think I'm making some of this up, I'll share a photo taken from last years very serious post race meeting.

If you are allergic to laughter, you may want to stay home. For me, the 14 hour drive is well worth the experience!!

The dog, "Buddy the Sea Dog" was in charge, because he was soberer.

BTW, all four of your administrators (Fleet Admirals)  are in this pic - scary!

Normally because of obvious national security reasons, all 4 of us are not allowed in the same place at the same time. And yes, Buddy the Seadog- the Chairman of the Board!

Mike and Brenda--That sounds great!!  Our home is always open to you and your family.  We are very much looking forward to seeing you both!

Want to add our names to the 'maybe' list to attend CLR.  We're in the starting process of building a house now, so we'll be iffy to attend.

Would like any info you can provide about places to stay, and where we'll launch from, etc.  We're retired so can try to attend when most folks arrive...........  FYI, we're not into racing, just cruising and enjoying.

ron, we all keep our boats at the West Access Marina in Carlyle. Slip fee is $20 a day unless you stay at the Mariner's Village motel (a short walk away), then its $10. We have a "Meet and Greet" at Bretz Winery Monday night (always a hoot and pretty good food). we will probably have two races weather permitting. Don't be put off by the word "Race". It's all just for fun, well, and trophies we put together. Speaking of trophies, there is an awards dinner on Thursday night at the West Access club. the "Theme" this year is "Gilligan's Island" so dress accordingly. My wife, Sarah, prepares a pretty good meal with help from other crews, we accept "donations". we have planned a "cornhole" tourney with each boat as a team. every night we have either a dock party or go to an area resteraunt. a sailing day is always capped off by raft-ups, swimming and lying. and a little drinking. there isnt a tight schedule and sailors can choose not to race but again its just for laughs and you dont have to worry about "bumping". only one sailor in the group is a racer. we sure do hope you can attend. i think this is the 7th year for the event.   thanks   steve and sarah bender    my e mail is   fordtruck52@yahoo    phone # 618) 588-3889

Thanks for the information!

Do you suggest getting reservations now at the Mariner Village?  Is it likely to fill up?

We'll likely either arrive early or stay later if we are able to attend.

I suggested that Chari could go as Ginger (long dress, flip up wig, etc); she countered that going as Gilligan would be EASIER.

THANKS.

i have cell#s of those sailors who attended last year (your's too Al) i would like to know if wives will be attending. ron, i havent heard of an event that would fill up the Village or the marina but i would call both places to make sure. it is my understanding that reservations if cancelled are not refundable. the event schedule is pretty loose and some sailors only come for a portion of it. having it during the week proved to be a good idea as both the lake and the marina are pretty much deserted (the way i like it). when you show up i and others will be available to help rig and launch boats and park vehicles. most will show up on the sunday prior but anytime is fine. i do want at least one cell phone number for each boat as cell service on the lake is good. we have used two way radios and vhf in the past but found that cell phones work best. every boat will be provided with a lake map, list of sailors, boat names and cell #s and a map and info about the races. we have often talked about a night sail and weather permitting i hope we can do that (not everyone will want to sail at night i understand but it is special if you have never done it and during the week i would say it would be safe). any further questions call me.

here is the list of sailors coming this year : Matt, John, Rich, Chris, Dan, Roger, Bob, Al and wife, Carl and Joan, Tim, Ron and Chari, Sarah and I, Mike and Brenda (hopefully), Jason and Ginger (hopefully), and Luke and Debbie (hopefully).
