Hi Everybody!

Just came back from a weekend in Newport, RI. Main purpose of trip was the annual Volvo Sports America meet which we held there. Of course, my secret agenda was the Volvo Ocean Race! Seeing the Volvo 1 class 65's was awesome. Because I am somewhat integral to the Volvo car meet, I was able to get close and almost personal with the 65's. The security people allowed me to enter the dock and photograph the boats close-up. They were quite supportive when they saw that I was wearing my ComPac Tee under my Volvo duds!

You can visit the Photobucket site to view some of the photos:

Nice pics!

Was in Newport for my daughters graduation at Salve Regina Sat and Sun, expected bad traffic, but it wasn't bad.
Would have loved to see the races, but seeing the my last kid graduate was nice too....maybe I can afford more than a Compac 16 now.

Marty I also got a chance to see the boats last week. Amazing!!
I've been watching the race religiously and it was just so cool to be standing next to them.
I'm glad I made the effort to get over there.

Thank you both for the great pictures.  They are much better than the ones that I have seen in magazines and on the news.

Well, remember, they are the equivalent of F-1 racers. They are built for speed and durability. Humans are there to hang on for the ride and a few other things! My understanding is that the previous VOR boats (70 footers) were good for one and done. These 65's are designed to last for two Round the World races.

P.S. I sure would like to ride on one... for a couple of nm!
P.P.S. Congratulations on your daughter's graduation, hinmo.
