Although I sold my boat a while ago, I keep watching this site and checking out ads and such.  I've noticed some very elaborate mast crutches.  I though I would share the one that I used.  It consists of two 1x2 pieces of wood with a loose bolt and locking nut holding them together about 2/3 of the way up.  Spread the bottoms out against where the cockpit seat meets the gunnel.  Once you put a little tension on the mast (just a little!) it isn't going anywhere.  When you are done it folds up and goes in the trunk.

I never really took a picture of it but this should give a good idea.

Huh!  Well, I like that, clever and simple!  What I have now is made of 2x4s, ugly and heavy.  I think it's days are numbered...  Thanks for the tip--  Gretcheng

I like it! Simple yet effective.
