General questions about parts and specfic question about the Rudder

Having just picked up my CP-19 this weekend I am starting to go over the boat very carefully. Is there any place that you can recommend for parts? I want to replace the lifelines. What size should I get to replace it? Also the Cowl Vent is broken. Is there a direct replacement available anywhere?

The companionway doors on my boat are acrylic, and don't' seem to fit correctly. I really want to replace this with teak. Any ideas where I can find teak companionway doors for a CP-19?

Another item I noticed is that the previous owner gave me two rudders. I am sharing some photos to see if anyone recognizes them and if there are advantages of one over the other.

Thanks!

the aluminum rudder on the left is stock.

the other looks like a foiled ida sailor, a much better rudder.

hutchins can supply you lifelines, or if your a d.i.y.'r, many chandleries have the supplies.

as for teak drop boards....$$$!

unless you don't mind spending the cash, i suggest finding a teak veneer plywood, or veneer it yourself.

1/2" teak plywood is about $110 for standard 4' X 8' piece.

i recently bought a 4' X 8' piece of teak veneer for $48 from amazon.

i applied it with spray adhesive, very easy to do.

That white rudder is no good. If you want, I'll take it off your hands. I'll even pay the shipping! Don't listen to that crazy guy. His name is Crazy Carl for a reason.

With regard to the cowl vent, when I bought my 23 it had a broken cowl vent on the foredeck.  The base was plastic and the vent it self was rubber.  The base was crumbling from UV exposure and the vent was split.  Rather than look for parts or replace with like and same I installed a low profile solar vent with a stainless steel cover.  Much better, less obtrusive, doesn't catch lines, and after about five years that little solar powered fan just keeps on rolling keeping my cabin fresh and mildew free.

Thanks for the info! I figured the companionway doors would be expensive. Do you know how much they cost? When my neighbor came out to look over the boat I told him about the doors and he offered to help build new doors (which means he wants a project - he has a wood shop in his garage ).  I appreciate the your cooments.

That's a great idea! What brand is the one you have? I like the idea keeping the deck clear so I think I'll be doing this upgrade.
Thanks!

Take your neighbor up on the offer of making new hatch boards.  They are not that complex (no gluing or joint work) and while teak is not cheap by the board foot it doesn't come close to the ridiculous prices that companies are asking for their products.  Keep the quality standard high and you will not regret it.
Chances are there is someplace in your area that has teak lumber or can order it.  Goggle hardwood lumber in your area.  Some time ago I ordered a 7' by 4" board to make new eyebrows and I think the board was about $80 but the shipping was an outrageous $30 or $40.

The vent is a Nicro Minivent 1000 with SS cover.  There are some less costly models out now but this one had the smallest cutout hole, just slightly larger than the cowl vent base, so I got it.
