What is the latest on the gathering? What day do we meet? Any help needed in organizing? My boat is at Marino's in Ozona. About 3 miles from Caladesi Island. I can make arrangements for people who want to launch there and leave their cars and trailers. Let me know. I was out this weekend for the first sail on our new 27.  It was great. Sorry about that northerners!

Billy

I ws just about to post a similar inquiry.

Channel 69 on the VHF will be the hailing channel for the get to gether.

I think the unoffical plan was to meet up Monday at Caladesi and then go from there. Any straglers can call us on VHF channel 69

How much does it cost to Launch at Marino's?

I plan on coming out Tuesday or Wed. I have to work Monday and not sure the wife will let me stay out all week.

And Are we still planning on a tour of the factory on Friday? Let me know and I will contact Hutchins.

Any others care to chime in.

I will talk to Tony and see if we can get a deal. He also has slips available. I will post what I find out tomorrow. How many boats are we talking about?

crazycarl

billy,

you got it right.

we'll meet at caladesi on monday morning, may 5th.

monday afternoon-ish we'll sail to a base camp to be determined (weather, availability)

we'll be monitoring channel 69 for late shows and those who can only come for a day.

last time i talked to rich, he said to contact him 2 weeks in advance and he'll have a better idea on his schedule.

awfeith,

please post info on this marina, some of us are still up in the air as to where we'll be launching from.

i've been readying the boat for the last 2 weeks.  80* on saturday, 70* on sunday, and right now the snow has been falling all afternoon and is accumulating on the lawn.

welcome to northern illinois!

i'll make sure to take a round about way to florida so this weather can't follow me.

see you all 3 weeks from today!

I can also look into setting up a night or two at the Marina. There is an area for socializing, showers, and mini mart for beer ect. Ozona is a cute community with water front bars and restaurants. Let me know.

Bring "Soap on a rope" if you plan to have the full experience though......... That way it doesn't get out of hand..... the soap that is.

crazycarl & Billy,

crazycarl,

Maybe it's just me being an "older salt" but after reading your proposed itinerary post for Monday May 5, I felt compelled to respond.

For those of us TRAVELING & LAUNCHING early Mon AM (May 5), proceeding to Caladesi Is. State Park Marina (from wherever), meeting and greeting arrivals, deciding on a basecamp location (will local knowledge be available?), departing later that afternoon to proceed to basecamp, and anchoring for the night once at basecamp, SEEMS A BIT AMBITIOUS and SOMEWHAT EXHAUSTING for those of us considering launching Mon AM , IMHO.

Guess I was under the mistaken impression as to WHY we decided to gather at Caladesi. That arrivals would take place throughout the day, and while CONVENIENTLY TIED TO DOCKS FOR THE AFTERNOON, EVENING AND FIRST NIGHT, we would accomplish all those things most of us thought would be nice to do on the FIRST DAY.

Otherwise, why assemble at Caladesi Is. at all? We could all try to launch from the same Ramp (or elsewhere) and proceed to a PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED BASECAMP LOCATION directly.

In any case I may just have to reconsider WHEN and WHERE I launch if I decide to attend.

Billy,

Approaching Caladesi from the south in the ICW, where is the earliest possible SAFE turn to port (west) in order to reach the outer channel markers to Seven Mouth Creek leading to Caladesi Is. State Park Marina? Curious if it could take place before G "15".

Thanks.

I checked with Tony this morning. He does not have slips available. You can launch there, but he can not supply overnight parking. He charges $10 for weekday launching. There is a public launch up alt 19 but parking seems to be the universal problem. I will check with a couple of nearby rv parks, as the snow birds are leaving this month. When I ask, how many trailers are we expecting. Seminole launch in Clearwater is a city operated and has overnight parking, but is south of us. Why not meet in Caladesi, stay overnight and push on from there? They have power, water, and floating docks. Last time I stayed there it was $11 a night with a 2 week max stay. Let me know. André

crazycarl

capt nemo and awfeith,

i thought someone mentioned it here that there was no overnighting at caladesi.

my mistake.  my BIG mistake.

there is NO tent camping.

it would definitely be easier to meet and stay, at least the 1st night, at caladesi state park.

i just checked and slips can be reserved ahead of time, so i went ahead and reserved a slip for monday, may 5th.

we'll be at slip #22

22, 24, and 26 are next to one another.

THERE ARE ONLY 4 OTHER SLIPS AVAILABLE FOR RESERVATIONS, however, there are slips available on a 1st come - 1st serve basis.

here is the info for everyone else...
