South Florida Crew?

Starting this coming Saturday (right after annual the Dania Marine Flea Market) I will be pushing away from the dock to go "float-about" for two or three months in an attempt to do the South Florida Loop in a counter clockwise direction staying at marinas and yacht clubs when I need to get work done and quiet secluded spots when I don't have to get work done.

Since my better half cannot get the time off work this year, I will be single handing it most of the time, but will be joined by my sister, a nephew, and a few friends along the way.  Any of you that would like a day or two aboard, I can always use a part time crew or a "meet-up" at your favorite anchorage. I don't have a real schedule... not the way I sail, but let me know thru here or e-mail me.

Let us know IF and WHEN you make it over to the southwest coast, specifically Charlotte Harbor area.

Hello, awfeith here. (AndrĂ©) . I was wondering if you could post the photo of your swim platform again., or tell me where I saw it. I would like to install one on our 27. Ours arrived in sunny FL this Thursday. To 30 degree weather!  Thanks

capt_nemo,

After a month of a combo of motoring, motor sailing, and honest sailing I have managed to make it up the east coast, across lake O and to the west coast of Florida. Currently off Estero Island and will be in the Naples area next week. Does anyone have lat/lon of good anchorages in the 10,000 island area? I have never sailed this area so suggestions are very welcome.

 jimyoung,

Can't help you with anchorages in 10,000 Islands Area.

capt_nemo,

No worries, right now I am at a Marina in Marcos Island.  Came down from Estero Island with some pretty good winds. In the morning we ( my nephew and I ) were able to have a good Gulf sail upwind as the winds were from the ESE at about 15k. As the day went on the winds clocked around to south winds and the winds up to 20k and seas at about 3 ft. but very close together. About 1:00 PM we quit fighting it, dropped the sails and put up the new iron Genny and pounded through wind and wave to a great little anchorage on the east side of Keewaydin Island. The night there was quite and peaceful but around sunup boats of all sizes began to arrive from both directions, Marine patrol started setting up a tent, and I decided this was not a place to be on anchor.

As we were chugging away more and more boats with more and more people looking as they were going to a party came zipping by, ready to get there now. We found out later that there was an "annual post canoe race party" going on there today the likes of a Columbus Day Regetta in Biscane Bay.

Joshua, my current crew and nephew from a small town in Oklahoma, as we were leaving developed a larger and larger grin on his face watching all of these young ladies passing us by. Joshua is in his late twenties, and is single..... right now he has borrowed my tender loaded it up with two six packs of beer, two life jackets, sun block and a camera to find that party.

Finally made it around Cape Sable, back up the Keys and Miss B is safely docked behind the house again. Guess I can mark "South Florida Loop" off the bucket list.

P.S. All you owners of older 27's .... take a look at the shelf that holds the upper steering post bearing.... You don't want it giving out on you while off shore... More later under the 27 post.
