Anyone out there hanked on a new headsail ? I'm looking for a lighter air summer sail 135 or 150 -what worked best for you?

John, considering the legacy is fairly close size-wise to the CP16 with a similar rig, I'll go out on a strong limb and say a 155% might be best. Much larger and sheeting might be difficult (not the pull of the line, getting the right angle), and it might hit the spreaders when close hauling.

For a true light air sail, consider nylon material rather than sailcloth if you think winds will be below 5 knots.

I'm running a 170% nylon flying drifter on our CP19, and very glad to have the light material which fills with wind easily and it stores well..you can stuff it in a bag with no harm to the material.

Lightweight sheets seem to be a must as well to keep the leech from sagging.  I'm trying to remember the type I'm using, but it's just not coming to me...

Thanks ,Salty "expierence" really helps. I am considering 2 additional sails something around the 150 range then a crusing spinnaker for the legacy. It is a sweet sailing little boat. On the first sail last year sailed past a Aerileon cat 19 & on the last sail a Quickstep 20.

All boats have their day

Legacy Headsails 150? cruising spinnaker?

I have taken the easyway out & asked Gerry for a Quote, and size, after all he redesigned the 16 into the current Legacy. If all goes well they can be added to the factory option list.

So we picked up our new Legacy this weekend. Got her home and now looking forward to the maiden voyage. Still working on the name.

Excellent!  Congratulations!  And I hope to see you out on the water!  I love my '13 Legacy, and can't wait to get it off the trailer and back in the Chesapeake.

By the way, where will you be sailing it?  If anywhere near the Northeast, check out the Barnegat Bay Bash (BBB) thread on the Outings section of this site.  Maybe we'll see you in a few months in New Jersey!

Thanks. Sounds nice but we're in Northeast Florida and will be sailing in our home area. Enjoy.

If you're still looking for one, there'll be on in my yard in Melbourne in about a week!
