Hello, all. New to this site and appreciate all the info. I'm considering the Legacy since it fits all my needs. Past owner of Catalina 22 and 28 foot models. Looking for a smaller boat that sails like a larger boat, fits in my garage, and offers a small cabin. The Legacy fits the bill. We are headed to the factory in a few weeks, but wondering if anyone knows of a Legacy in the Jacksonville, Fl area that I can take a look at also. Thanks.

Sorry I can't help with locating a Legacy inyour area. I'm on the other coast.

I can welcome you to the group. I think you'll like the Legacy it feels bigger then it is. Just get a good seat pad. You'll want to spend some time in it.

Is the Legacy the replacement for the CP-16 or the replacement for the CP-19 ?
I can never figure that out?
Or both ... ???

skip.

wes

It's the CP 16's replacement.

Our friend sailed a Capri 18 and it NEVER held a candle to the three 19"s around here.

When you watch it from astern the main on the Capri never quite looked right, even when we changed skippers.
Every skipper driving the Capri 18 was run down, caught up and passed by any of the CP-19's.

The Capri 18 was sold at a garage sale. And a 18 foot Victoria was purchased and that was sold and replaced by a 22 ft [?] Stone Horse named Sea Horse and that was sold and now, finally, the skipper is sticking to his and her kayaks.
Gee sounds like he just wanted to get the women off of his boat!

As a past Catalina owner(twice), I have to say I briefly considered the 18. However, all things considered, we've ordered the Legacy after visiting the factory last weekend. The Legacy was the best fit for our wants and needs.
I'm looking forward to taking delivery and getting on the water again.
I also look forward to continuing with the CPYO Association as a Legacy owner.
Thanks all.

Hi Rick: Welcome to the site and congrats on your new baby. Any expected arrival date yet? Any names picked out? I've seen the Legacy at sailboat shows but haven't seen any on the water around here (NJ). Looking forward to your posts,

Thanks for the note. Delivery is looking like mid April. Still working on a name.

That's only a month away, not long at all.

I've owned a couple of Catalina's in years past. I caught "minus three footitis*" and worked my way to the Legacy. I've had mine for a couple years now and I'm quite liking it.

* a lessor known affliction which is the opposite of the better known and more prevalent "three footitis" boat owner contagion.

Hey Hey Hey there Kick!  I was given an H23 a couple of years ago - couldn't sell it, so I've sailed it.  It shares a well known CP-19 feature: a flat bottom!

There aren't any cp-23's (one or two in slips - never see them out on the water) sailing here so I can't compare performance, but this boat sails REALLY well.  Very lively in light airs but I must reef at 12Knots.  Sails rings around the Catalinas and Precisions and even J24s; If I keep her flat.

Enough heresy though, The 19 is my favorite, saltiest looking sailboat.  She has the place of honor in my sailing fleet, at my dock, in the water - ready to sail anytime; Andiamo!

The H word. I must confess that I've been tempted by and older Hunter 25 built by Cherubini that is for sale here in NJ for and steadily decreasing amount of $. Down to 2300 I think. It's a bit tempting for 2 reasons: The older Hunters were really good boats and I'd like to sometime expericence standing up in a sailboat. I can dream, can't I.
But in truth, I really love my 23. I'm sure I'd regret downgrading to a Hunter.
