I should have found this site earlier. I'm about to purchase a 1989 Compac 23/3 - I have limited sailing experience and most sailing will occur in the Chicago area of Lake Michigan. Am I looking at the right sailboat? Do any of you have any suggestions or coments? Thanks in advance.

Craig

You're asking on a Com-Pac owners site if the 23 is a good boat?  :)  I have limited experience on a 23, but I've had my 16 on Lake Michigan. I think you will find the 23 to be a good, stable boat and more than seaworthy enough to handle typical Lake Michigan sailing. You might get a quicker response to your questions about sailing a 23 on Lake Michigan by posting it in the 23 section of this site, and you could post on the Yahoogroups site.

Hope to soon welcome you aboard the Com-Pac flotilla!

As a kid I sailed out of Belmont in Chicago with several boats.
A Star on a trailer that my dad had raised from the bottom
of Lake Michigan after he bought it sight unseen from the
guy who sank it off the mouth of Belmont Harbor. And a
Penquin that I would sail around the three mile water intakes
for the city, and crewed as a spinnaker man on a Rhodes 19
keel boat [They also came centerboard]. Now we are in Sturgeon Bay.
I like the bay better then lake Michigan. More to see. skip
