WELCOME BACK TO SNOW COUNTRY BY A HOWLING SIBERIAN HUSKY

All in all, a great trip, sailed the big water with SISKIWIT, dragged a fishing line for 40-50 hrs without a bite, but sailing was great.

Photos from original camera did not come out........  bummer..

(I took the liberty of installing your images in the Image Gallery and then posting them back into your original post. This is the easiest way to insert since the Image Gallery is ussually accessible to the Forum.  You can see the way i did this by looking at the edit version of this post  -Clemens)

Welcome to the North Country once again Doug.  Looks like you had a great time!  I could not use the link but had to cut and paste the url to get the pictures but they looked good.  I especially liked the dorsal fin of the dolphin.  Probably won't see that on Hardy Pond :D

How did Siskiwit handle the big water?

sawyer

Big water was not a problem. Waves were 3-5 with occasional 6, some cresting white, but the little boat has a big heart.  Wind was 10-15kts out of the south, just enough without pushing us over, never had to reef, but only had the jib and main up.  With 200# of batteries on the keel, and a boatload of goods, she sailed real well. I'm sure the boat could actually handle much more than I could.  I had to use the trolling motor one time to get in, the tide was working to hard against me, and I was in flat water with light wind. Never really had to re-charge, and I do not have solar panels hooked up yet , even so two batteries 127ah each held up real well.
I was fortunate to find a copy of "Tinkerbelle" which read well on the trip down, "Robert Manrey, there was a man with some guts. He did some sailing in the Michigan area too, some photos of the Ludington area with his family.  He did not have much of a boat, compared with todays plastic, but he did 76 days.  All in all, a great trip, missed my wife sooner than I thought I would, stayed about 8 days, then came home to rest. After having held the rudder for 10-12hrs straight, those long reaches can be boring compared to the sailing I am used to, but it was fun reading charts and working with the tides.  I grounded out once and had to get out of the boat and push off a sand bar, since Katrina, all of them are not marked on the charts.  The nice thing about the CP-16 is that it pushes off easily even though I could not move it by kedging the anchor and leaning the boat. I found that I am more in tune with technical sailing, lots of turns and winds from different directions.  I also found that the CP-16 is a little small for me to overnight on, pretty snug, but dry and mosquito free down inside however.  Glad I had netting with me while staying at Dog Island.  I would recommend this kind of trip for anyone, as long as  you respect the Gulf, the little "16" is a boat that handles those waters well.

Is it jut me or is anyone else denied access to the photos?

Great story but I wish I could view the photos . . .

TroyVB

You can get to the photos by copying the address to your address bar.  There must be a problem with the link.  I was still able to view them a few minutes ago.

TroyVB

My mistake.  The link seems to be working now.

Craig

When I click on the link I get this:

"Forbidden

Apache/1.3.33 Server at upsa-im111.ofoto.com Port 80"

I am able to view the pictures if I copy and paste the address into the browser.

Sorry everyone. I used the test screen before I posted them and had them all working when I checked it, I'll see what I can do...........

sawyer

The way I got to the photos today was to copy and paste to my address bar........   I'm somewhat computer challenged, but learning.
