How the Grinch Stole Sailing Season

This Wisconsin winter is one mean ol' tenacious bugger.  Heavy snowfall, low temperatures hanging around well past their appropriate dates, mud, wind and then unending days of rain.  The good news is it finally quit raining today....it is snowing instead!

Last season I was working on Wrinkles in my t-shirt in March and was sailing in April.  This year the 23 is stuck under her carport looking really dusty and sad.  We actually have one, yes one, day of decent weather forecast over the next week.  It it supposed to zoom up to 48 degrees and feature real live sunshine.

The Grinch is winning so far, but we sailors are a determined lot.  We'll have our sailing season one way or another here in Whoville, Wisconsin.

Well, Don't feel all alone. What's the old saying "Misery loves company". I am in northern Michigan...light snow, wind and temperature of 36. On top of that our power was out the last 8 hours. (back on now). But I think I see a smile beaming from under the tarp in the driveway. She knows her time is coming soon.

I was going to bring my 23 home from the marina tonight for a little pre-season cleaning and upgrades, but we got 6-8 inches of snow in St. Paul last night (more coming down right now), so I'll be snow blowing the driveway instead of sitting on the boat in the driveway fantasizing.

I kinda wish I had the boat in the water already, how often do you get to sail in a snow storm? But she is going back into the water next weekend no mater what, and with the spring we're having, I might still have a chance to sail in the snow this year.

Good luck to all of us.

Same here Mike.

Well, no snow at least.  The rains have raised our lake to the point it's closed.  The local river is over it's banks, roads are closed, fields are flooded, whole towns are without water, gas, and electricity, and towns along the Illinois river have been evacuated.

Our daughter's basement flooded, ruining her husbands recording studio... guitars, drums, amps and the like.

No rain today, but the winds are hitting 35 mph.  Too windy for this sailor to retrieve our 19 from Carlyle Lake Marina were Jason did a bottom job on it.

T storms here in Liquid sun-shiney VA.  Have to work tomorrow am, but am hitting the water by 2:30 PM. May even sleep out. Don't know yet, cause the Admiral is still checking her M&R list.

My heart goes out to all you snow-bound Compac-o-nauts! 63F now in NJ...rain forecast...making slow progress on the yacht. The Admiral is demanding it be out of her driveway and pronto..or else! Hoping to be in around mid-May...

We watched the grandkids first little league game today here in upstate NY.  There was just a hint of sun, lots of wind and the temps almost reached 50.   We all went home quite chilled.  It might have been a good day to get the Madame out of storage but since we leave for the Sunshine state on Tuesday for 2 weeks we decided to keep her in a safe place until we return.
Hmmmm...?    Are there any Com-Pacs in the Hollywood, FL area?  We are really starting to feel the bug!

Well it's Sunday, and you what? It snowed heavy. Again.
seems like I'll never get the boat and car out of storage.
We have a model 'A' breakfast next Saturday. We'll be going in the Mercury.
And the dock? Maybe it'll be splashed in July for the 4th.?

Since there is no such thing as Global Warming, I'm totally befuddled!.

Well the next four days still have cold temps and a rain/snow component, but the Grinch is losing his meanness this weekend.  They are forecasting normal spring temps and even sunshine.  Sounds like sailing season may finally start.  As soon as Brenda heard "sunshine" she immediately got the vacuum out and climbed into Wrinkles to get the spring cleaning done.  That woman sure loves her sailing and water time.

Let the fun begin.
