My 1988 CP 27 has the mainsheet traveler installed on the bridge desk below the companionway. Very interested in upgrading to the cabin top version, and I've read all the previous threads on the site but have not seen a photo of the "factory" cabin top version. Anybody willing to post a pic or two, preferably showing not only details of the traveler but also the sheet attachment at the boom end? Help a brother out.....

Just happened to take these last fall as I was decommissioning.

The only thing I dont like about the set up, is that my lines come through the dodger (not shown) and the only way to uncleat them is to lean through a zippered window in the companion way.  Its not a big deal, but something to consider.

Very helpful! A few followups:

1. What year is your boat?
2. Looks like you must have three lines led to the helm - mainsheet and two traveler control lines. Correct?
3. Looks like one of the two halyard turning blocks at mast base is being used for the mainsheet. Correct? Does this mean you had to give up bringing the jib halyard back to the helm?
4. Do you know what brand(s) the traveler track and cars are?

Thanks!

I would check out garhauer.  I used their midboom setup on a catalina 27 I had years ago, the price isnt bad either.  Then you also need nice backing plates for the underside of the deck in the cabin.  After my mast base that I built I used the scrap stainless for backing plates when I did my midboom project on Koinonia.  My risers are teak and has worked out well.

Boat is a '94.
Everything comes back to the helm.  On starboard side are the mainsheet and main halyard.  On the port side are the jib halyard and a main outhaul.  The traveler control lines come through the dodger on both port and starboard above the other two.  In total, six lines, although I never use the jib halyard or outhaul.
I'm not sure of the traveler brand?  Next time I'm down at the boat I will look for any identifying labels.

Wes, Here is a link for yachtworld with a 94 boat, it has a few pictures on deck showing the traveler.  Also you can try walking the marina docks since there isnt any one way to do sheeting like this and other boats can give ideas on what you like and dont like, the principle is still the same.

I did this conversion to Miss B and LOVE it!  Got the hardware from the guys on a visit to the factory and set it up to attach to the boom in three places. The extra purchase loop makes sheeting in easier and more adjustable. Somewhere here is a thread on the conversion.  If you need more pic's let me know, I allways enjoy showing off Miss B.

Thanks, guys. K, the Yachtworld pics were very helpful. Jim, I got the parts list and pricing (ouch) from Hutchins yesterday. Your endorsement is the push I needed.

Hopefully I will get a good price when I sell one of my children (the human ones of course, not the boats) to pay for this. A man has to keep his priorities straight.

Hi Wes:
There is an ad in the magazine "Good Old Boat" for two different size travelers for what I thought were very reasonable prices. I believe it is the current issue because I purchased it at West Marine this Weds.
Good Luck

Wes:
Instead of selling your children, maybe you could lease them out to members here as part time indentured hull waxers. Hey, you might even make some money on the deal. They DO know how to wax a hull properly, don't they?
It's exciting to follow your posts about your new 27. What're you gonna do with your beloved Bella?
Bob23...no- I don't want to buy her.

Wes, looks like your pretty good at this stuff.  The starboard side mounting area is also just about the place where your forward bulkhead is seperating the cabin from the head.  I didnt make this mistake, but came close, it was one of those moments where the drill was on the deck and that though of whats on the other side popped up in my head.  I used teak to build my riser blocks and an existing traveler that I had to build my sheeting system.

wes

K - that's a really good point. Being a 19 guy and never having had a bulkhead before, I might not have thought of that. Would love to see a pic of your setup with the teak risers. Looks like the factory rig uses stainless brackets.

Bob - I may be a crazy person, but I cannot bear the thought of giving up Bella. It would be like giving up one of my children, which I'm unlikely to do despite the fact that neither of them shows the slightest interest or ability in the field of hull waxing.

I am going to do the renovation of Miss Currently Unnamed at a tiny DIY boatyard just across the road from the tiny marina where Bella has her slip. Drive to the marina with First Dog Max on Friday evening, sleep aboard Bella on Friday night, sand Miss CU on Saturday morning, go sailing with Max on Bella on Saturday afternoon. What's not to like?

Amazingly, my wife is fine with all this. I have assured her that 27 foot boats come with a factory guarantee of no heeling whatsoever.

Wes:
Remarkable, that guarantee is true! But reading the fine print you'll find that it's void after the mast is 3 degrees off plumb. Gotta love that fine print.
But appropriate for a two-timer like you!

Wes, I will get some pictures to you this coming week.  Have you checked out garhauer systems yet?  Garhauer makes some great equipment, with very good prices as well.  If I remember right their risers come with stainless backing plates.
