Wrinkles crew is snug in their house with Christmas music playing, B and Matt's girlfriend baking christmas cookies and the tree all lit up while it snows like crazy outside.  Best of all our college son is back and is out snowblowing our long, long country driveway.  As soon as my coffee is done brewing it will be a pretty good holiday atmosphere.

Hope everyone is taking time to relax and enjoy the holiday spirit. Merry Christmas from the Greenes.

How beautiful!!   And,  did I get this right... You are actually considering leaving this beauty behind and heading to the gulf Coast in the not too distant future?   Have a great Christmas..  We will be heading north the day after Christmas to spend some time with my young adult aged kids..  Can't wait..  We sure are blessed to be able to enjoy good relationships with our kids..  I know that you feel the same way!   Jt

Kick - Wrinkles is all tucked away under her carport roof with a the sides tarped.  She is dry and happy without the concern of snow buildup on her.  If she was out in the driveway under just a tarp I would have to go outside and remove the snow once an hour.  Lots of our trees are sagging pitifully under this wet heavy snow.  It is beautiful, but it is going to do a bit of damage as well.

I'm ready to trade my snowblower in for a beach chair and a cold beer anytime now.

You never ave to shovel humidity from your driveway or scrape it off of your windshield here in sunny Florida!

78 degrees today!

Looks like the storm is coming our way here in Ohio.  Only an inch or so thankfully as we now have a long driveway and no plow or snowblower.  Need to get on that!

Winds are 28 gusting to 35. Shouldn't bring any trees down, but we have lots of little branches fallen.

Amazing the difference a 100 or so miles makes.  I think we dodged a nasty one this time.   We only got a ton of rain and 2 inches of snow down here in Crystal Lake.  It was pretty for a couple of hours.  Now cold and windy and off to ORD to pick up my daughter home from college for the holidays.  I'm off work for ten days and won't miss it a bit.

Happy, Happy, Merry, Merry everyone.

vector,

were only 50 or so miles south of you and we only got ice and an unmeasurable amount of snow.

sun is out and the ice is already gone.

we did have some large branches down from the 55mph+ winds.

We ended up with 20" of lovely white snow.  The strong winds have made all rural roads impossible to use.  My Toyota 4Runner with an extra 200 lbs of salt over the rear axle had all it wanted this morning.  Even in four wheel drive the drifts were no fun.  Unfortunately I had to fix two furnaces in Madison, so staying home wasn't an option.

Hopefully my son is snowblowing my driveway while I'm away.

Funny you guys should mention snowblowers.  Last winter I went out to fire up my 30 year old two-stage Toro to prep it for the season.  No go.  I checked all the usual suspects, still no go.  I knew it was on its last leg at the end of the previous rough winter but hoped I could get through one more.  After working on it for a few minutes, I told myself that it was time for a new one.  Bought a new Cub Cadet 524swe. Two stage electric start power steering.  I couldn't wait to fire it up.  Of course it didn't snow more than 2 inches last winter and I haven't had a chance to use it yet.  I thought today would be the day, guess not.

So if you don't want it to snow, buy a new snowblower!

Hi Guys,

Gee all that snow does look beautiful. When I was a little one I always used to wish we could have a white Christmas, didt happen of course. Even though it's the middle of summer here we still persist in having the traditional European style Christmas with all the hot food, Christmas tree, decorations that look like snow etc. Would make more sense to hit the beach and eat cold lobster and drink icy beer, but when we tried that for a couple of years it didn't feel right. Tradition. Powerful things traditions.

So we will attend the cathedral service in the evening on Christmas eve for the service and to listen to the choir sing all the traditional carols, then on Christmas day we will sit down for the turkey, Christmas pudding etc. even if it doesn't make sense.

But all those pictures of snow covered pine trees makes me homesick for something I only know from Christmas cards and children's picture books. It just looks right.  On the other hand it will be 39 or 40 degrees here today (104 degrees Fahrenheit ), might actually be a few degrees cooler on Christmas day, just right for the pudding!

Best wishes to all,

Pete H.

It is good to have the storm behind us.  The scenery it left behind sure is beautiful though.

Thanks for the pics, Mike. I'm getting out my cross country skiis right now in anticipation of some snow here in NJ sometime this winter. Last winter we got a total of 3"...very disappointing. What can be better than shoveling snow off my driveway (by hand, thank you- I refuse to buy a snow blower) on a sunny, freezing morning with hot coffee in hand? Well, I can think of a lot of better things like helping my older neighbors shovel thiers.
Snow is like surfing: An event! You gotta enjoy it while it's here 'cause it's gone in no time.
