Hi everyone,
Just bought a second hand Com-PAC Eclipse 2009. I live in Brisbane, Australia and bought it from a guy who imported it from California a year ago. it used to be called the Vanessa Reed II, but is now renamed L'Attitude. I wonder
if anyone knew this boat? Its a great boat and in very good condition. I have not sailed for 20 years and then only smaller dinghys, so this is new territory for me. But with kids left school I figured I had my weekends to myself again. Brisbane is in the shores of Moreton Bay, full of dolphins, dugongs (like a manatee) and other exciting things! We came across the Eclipse almost by accident, we think it is only the second or third one in Australia, so I was really lucky to find one just an hour away especially considering how far you guys need to go to find one! There is a dealer now importing these so hopefully we'll see more about.

I've been reading the forum and can see lots of useful info so I will be a regular visitor. I will upload pics of L'Attutude shortly.

Welcome and Congrats, Terry,

Wow, what luck to find an Eclipse down under.  I searched for many months just to find one near me in upstate New York.  My 2006 Eclipse is my first sailboat and after one full season of sailing her the thought of putting her away for the winter is a bit depressing.  We hope to see your pics soon.  As I might guess that your season is just beginning or can you sail year round in Brisbane?   Anyway your posts will help us get through the winter blues.   :)

This site is a wealth of information and it has played a major part in making our first season exceptional.  If you have any questions that haven't already been posted just ask and I'm sure you will get some good help.

Best of luck to you,
Allen

Welcome to the Eclipse life Terry!

I have always dreamed of traveling to to Australia. The cherry on top of a trip like that would be to have a sailboat waiting for me when I arrived!

It must be amazing, and challenging, to sail with the wildlife and the geography that is so different from ours up here.

I look forward to seeing pictures of your adventures!

I also have a 2009 Eclipse, Dragonfly. It is the best sailboat I have ever had.

Every sailboat has its pros and cons, and lists of compromises (performance, stability, portability, livability, etc), but in my opinion the Eclipse got the formula just right. I am sure you will be very happy with it.

Hi Terry - welcome to our merry little band. In addition to this awesome forum, another excellent online resource is The Sailboat Company (www.ipass.net/sailboat). Keith, the owner, is a long time CP dealer, a wealth of info on common problems and modifications, and has undertaken and written about some amazingly bold projects (extending a Com-Pac by 3 more feet of hull length and adding a pilot house, for example). I find his perspective as a dealer and boatyard owner to be a useful complement to the mostly owner-provided info here at CPYOA.

Hi Terryvk,

I saw your post on the forum and that spurred me on to do the same, I had been following it for a while trying to learn as much about Compac yachts as possible, but had never posted anything myself.

Congratulations on your new Eclipse. I had a good look at one at the dealers when we came up your way to pick up our Legacy, I did love the Eclipse and for a few moments thought of buying it instead of the Legacy. However I had my wife with me, the sensible one in the partnership, and she reminded me that I that I had just sold a larger trailer sailer the previous week because it was too big for us to handle anymore, that was the excuse/reason for buying a nice new smaller boat. She was right of course, but that Eclipse was tempting.

If you are ever down in Victoria and want to do some sailing give me a call, 0407126453.

Best wishes for fair winds and calm seas.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Took the boat out on the weekend for the first time. No major mishaps, but I have a VERY low slung trailer which only just scrapes over the boat ramp at Manly. Anyway managed to launch, sail around Green Island and get it back on the trailer and home no problems. Very happy with the boat - I can see many more weekends of enjoyable sailing coming up. I was a bit pre-occuppied to take any photos this time but will be sure to upload some pics soon.

Pete, it's a bit of trip to get to Vic, but you never know! Whereabouts are you? Likewise if you get to Brissie, let me know.
