Hello sloopy sailors!

As many know, the 2012 Sun Cat National Championship Regatta is coming up in a couple of weeks. Last year, Tyler Hutchins and his wife brought a Sunday Cat down from the Com-Pac factory to participate. This year, Com-Pac has no extra Sun Cats sitting around, but they are returning anyway and bringing their personal Com-Pac 16.

We may already have another 16, as former Sun Cat owner Paul now has one.

Just one more would make a racing class! Anyone interested, please go and register for the race and we'll see you in November!

My boat is almost ready to travel.  Considered going,  but a friend had surgery and will need someone around when the nurse is not here.
Next year?

This will be the third annual Sun Cat Nationals and yes, we plan to continue the tradition! :)

I hope to make it but it will depend on my work travel plans that week.

At present, it looks like I will get to Tampa late Friday night and then have to drive home to Sarasota after midnight.
(If I do make it I might have to request a "sleep deprivation" handicap.)

Anyway, would it make sense to launch at the Port Charlotte Beach Park in Alligator Bay?

If so, can you tell me approximately where will the start be located or provide a general direction and distance from Alligator Bay?

I will be sailing on my original 1976 sails that are a bit worn so I don't expect to lead the fleet but it would be fun.

Cheers

Pacman,

A couple of the sailors regularly use the Beach Complex ramp because it's the best in the county, and yes, they use it for the Nationals too.

Course location depends on the wind, but has been in the general area of Charlotte Harbor marker number 3, which is about the same distance from the Beach Complex, Laishley Park, or Ponce Park. So it really doesn't matter where you launch, just head into the upper harbor and look for catboats!

I hope you can make it to our awards dinner Saturday night too! If you plan to attend the dinner, please register on our site so we will have food for you!
