OK, how about some trailer talk; cp23 keel is how wide on the keel rests ?

Got a decent trailer but really should improve launch/retrieval ability.... I think my keel rest on trailer
needs a wider board to rest on( more than a 2"x6" ), a vertical tapered "V" guide pattern on the sides on keel rest,
and maybe rollers mounted on the vertical boards to assist pulling the bow up to the bow rest .
If I can get measurements of the width of the keel, that will help me fabricate a low skill, low tech V guide
for the keel to slide into when pulling her on bunks and cranking snug with the trailer winch...

I believe that the board on my trailer is a 2 x 10 but I'll check it out today. And the keel is almost that wide! I'll post more accurate measurements later.

I went with a 2 x 8 for the keel to rest on, but a 2 x 10 would be a better size match.  I used  2 x 6 boards for the side guides.
It is interesting to see the trailer set-up that Hutchins put under the new Com-Pac 23 Pilothouse.  You can see they just used a 2 x 6 for the bottom board.  See a pictures below.

BOB- did you get measurement of keel yet ?

Bob23

I sorta, kinda forgot. I'll get right on it tomorrow. Promise.

My keel guides are set 12-3/4 inches apart and that gives about 3/4 inch clearance at the widest point of the keel.

Hock:
The paint lines on my 2x10 are right to the edge so I feel confident in stating that the keel is about 9 1/2" wide.

My 1980 Com-Pac 23 was in pretty good condition when I bought it but the trailer was in a sad shape.  It had a surge/drum brake set-up at one time but someone decided to disconnect the brakes and remove the surge device altogether.  This and the copious amounts of rust throughout did not instill any road going confidence.  I started my search for someone who could bring my trailer up to par or maybe buy a new one.  I opted for a new one.  Here's the old one:

And here's the new one:

I'll take some measurements on it when I return from overseas and post it.
