There is going to be a little gathering on Lake Monroe Sept 21, 22, and 23. All are welcome.

We have a campsite at Paynetown reserved, it is off 446 south of Bloomington IN. Cost is $20 for a sticker for your boat to sail on Indiana owned lakes, less if you don't have a motor, plus $5 to get into the park. The campsite is B05.

There are not any slips, we just beach the boats near the campsite. We typically sleep in the boats, but tents are welcome.

Paynetown Campground has a boat launch. I believe it should be fine for launching shallow keel trailer sailors, however this is my first time launching a keeled sailboat here. I don't expect issues, but I thought I would share that disclaimer!

So far we have 3 West Wight Potter 19s, and my Eclipse.

The WWP crowd will be oohing and ahhing over your boat...mark my words.

There was a WWP19 in my marina last year. It was kinda rough looking having kissed a few docks and generally not well maintained.  Had to clean his drool off my deck several times. He came over to gawk on a regular basis (makes working on the boat difficult!).  And the Eclipse is a prettier boat than the CP19.

Better smear some mud on it--it's easier to clean than drool.   ;D

Shoot.  Wish I had known this was coming.  I am scheduled for a marriage retreat that weekend and if I bailed out and went sailing it would take more than a marriage retreat to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.  Is this an anual event?

Salty,

I sure hope they drool! Dragonfly is going to be the Belle of the Ball (as long as no other boats show up)!

Heh heh!

I have owned both the WWP 19, and the Eclipse (as well as a Sanibel 18). I can say that the Eclipse is far better made and sails much more confidently than the other two, but then again the Eclipse cost me more money than the other two boats combined!

Bruce,

We have a little gathering every Fall at Lake Monroe. I am not actually the person that organizes it, but I will definitely give a heads up way in advance for next years gathering.

i thought a "marriage retreat" was just another term for "separate vacations"

EclipseGuy,
I would be interested in making the trip but I have set plans already for that weekend.  Please put me on the list for whoever coordinates the weekend for next year if you can.  I have noticed that these Com Pacs do seem to collect nice comments and droolers.  It's a good thing these boats have scuppers.

I will definitely share information about next Fall's Lake Monroe gathering way in advance. It is a lot of fun and I would love to see some of the Com-Pac sailors there.

In regards to pretty boats, I saved a picture of Salty's boat to my computer back when I first saw it months ago. If I ever decide to spend the bazillion dollars that it costs to have my boat painted, I think I would go with the same color he chose. That color compliments the classic style of Com-Pac very well.

Eclipseguy--Thanks for the compliment. I'm sorry to dissappoint you, but the color is factory gelcoat, not paint.    I bet the Eclipse would look absolutely stunning in that color.  I suppose you could have paint mixed up to match???

The Lake Monroe weekend was a lot of fun. The ramp at the Paynetown campground was just fine and launching the Eclipse was no problem at all.

We beached the boats along the shore of campsite B5. It gets deep very quickly so beaching a shallow keel sailboat was no problem at all.

Lake Monroe is a nice lake for small sailboats, in fact the marina on the lake had sailboats as large as 28 feet. I will let everyone know well in advance of our next outing.

Won't waves from wind and passing boats push a beached boat further up the beach and make them more difficult to push off?

EclipseGuy

We have never had an issue with the boats being pushed up the beach.

We tend to choose areas to beach where there aren't big waves. It isn't because we are afraid of being pushed further onto the beach, but more because we prefer not to get pounded by waves. In this case, we are beached in an inlet that is a now-wake zone area.
