Luna became mine today!  Unfortunately the boat is in San Diego and I am in Arizona.  Going to be on the boat for the first time on Saturday and plan to keep her in San Diego for two or three months.  Will report on the adventure.

Which marina or yacht club will she be moored ? I ask because my sister-n-law lives in the Hillcrest block of San Diego
and she used to crew aboard race boats and traveled to the carribbean on a large hull .
Also, I vaca'd there last march and crewed on the Stars n Stripes 11 at the Kona Kai marina /resort.
If I can do another vaca this november or so , maybe I can join you for a sail or share compac owner info.

I will be at Harbor Island West.  Used to keep my previous boat (North Sea Trawler) at Kona Kai.  Hope you make it out and we can meet ....... I need all the help I can get since my sailing skills are rusty .......in fact, they were never very good!

Maiden voyage (for us) today.  Spent all day yesterday sorting out rigging, electrical, etc.  Was able to manhandle the mast to vertical while in the water with the help of a friend and my wife (two different people!).  It wasn't pretty but we go it up without any injuries to us or boat.  Missing main sheet and jib sheets so had to settle for motoring down San Diego Bay to the Del Coronado Hotel and back as the sun set.  Back to Arizona tomorrow.  Will get back to boat in a week or so with necessary gear to turn off the diesel engine!  Life is good!

Update on Luna.  Since the boat is in San Diego and we are in Arizona, I have not been able to put much time into getting the boat "up and running".   I was able to spend three days in San Diego last week and finally had my first sailing adventure aboard Luna in San Diego Bay and in  the Pacific just outside of Point Loma.    Long story made short .... I was replacing the jib halyard by using the existing one as a messenger to "carry" the new halyard up and over the sheave at the top of the mast.  The two lines were connected by duct tape.  You guessed it .... both ended up lying on the deck.  I had spend long hours getting the mast vertical, rigging stays, furling jib, etc. and decided that dropping the mast was not an option.   Found an open slip next to a very large sport fisherman with a tall tuna tower.   Was able to take main halyard up to top of tuna tower and with the help of the boom vang (attached to tuna tower and main halyard) was able to pull top of mast to the tower and re-rig the jib halyard.  Counted thirteen trips up and down the tuna tower to get the job done.   Really felt good when it was done!

hey that was quite the story..  always nice to have friendly boaters nearby!    i had a friend who went to point loma college..  visited her in  1981  ( i guess that is telling)  - what a nice place you have to sail..   how far is your drive from home to san diego?    our boat is  a little over 3 hours away.   it makes for nice three day weekends, but  it is a little far to think that i will go down for the day..      our plan is to move the boat to the new york side of  lake champlain   ...  of course that is even further away from north east pa, but it will make for some very nice extended stays, and it is closer to my kids, so we will be able to combine the trips with visits..    jt

JT, It is a 5.5 hour drive from Phoenix to San Diego.  I am a pilot and own a single engine Cessna that I flew over to San Diego last week .... 2.5 hours.  Not bad, but still expensive and time consuming.  San Diego Bay is interesting with a lot of military activity.   Anchored at Glorietta Bay for a few hours which is at Coronado Island.  Will be bringing the boat back to Arizona (Lake Pleasant) in a month or two for the duration of the winter.
