Painting Wrinkles

Well it is official.  I HATE painting.  All you folks who paint your boats outside and come away with a factory look finish are now my heros.  Wrinkles looks really nice now, but she doesn't have that perfect finish I have seen others achieve.  She looks good though and Brenda is thrilled to finally have a blue hulled boat again.  Now I need to get rid of that dull old reddish bottom paint and give her a new white coating.

It was the weather - humidity - wind - air compressor - wrong paint - cheap spray gun......................  Nope, I just suck at painting!

looks better than my 52 ford mike. my brother, the painter, says its a "5 footer". if you dont get closer than 5 feet its a showtruck. the blue is beautiful. tell b that i agree blue is the best. i guess the beautiful boat award is a lock in august. would have been nice to see the "mike boats" side by side.

What type of paint did you use? A extra coat and some sanding and buffing it would look like a pro without allpro work when spraying.
to be honest.....shhhhh.......every time i paint.....and im a pro......ive had runs........i dare anyone of you to point em out! You cant! I gauruntee it!

Yes though it is tough somewhat. Especially not doing it often. The real guys do roll and tip and have it perfect.......now that is a pro.

You are being too modest.

That is funny Kick.  I posted last night on our blog that Wrinkles was a 10.  As in a 10 foot away beauty.

MacGyver - I used Interlux Perfection and yes it could use one more coat.  Maybe later this summer I'll feel like taping and tarping her all over again.  Maybe not too.

Once the paint drys hard...

Get a little rubbing compound and buff her up. smooth as a babies bottom.

I like the color...skip.

Enjoy the boat, MG. Sure, maybe it's not a car finish but, and I speak for myself, one can spend too much time and energy prettying her up when all she asks is: "Take me out on the town dancing!"
Sail it and deal with it in the fall. I love the color. I was just saying the other day, I'd like to paint my 23 black or dark green. But, practically speaking, I'm gonna leave well enough alone. Or pay someone who knows how to do it.
(Note: This advice comes from someone who's 23 is still in her trailer in the driveway.)

Finished painting Wrinkles and added the new registration numbers.  We also picked up our new boat logo and installed it.  She looks like a different boat.

The registration numbers have a gold shadow that really turned out nice.

I think I'm just going to take Bob's advice (did I just say that?) and leave the bottom as is for this season.  It is time to get her back on the water.

Mike and Brenda--Very, very nice!  Becky loves it too.   Looks like Wes's Bella, with 4 foot-itus!!

Wrinkles is sooo happy now...just add water.

You didn't just say that, didja?
Mike, the boat looks great. Good choice to not bring the blue up to the rub rail. And I love the logo. Looks like your'e gonna beat me into the water. I was planning on this weekend but it ain't happening. Maybe week of 6/18.
I was thinking that a cool thing to do would be to laminate mahogany plywood to the transom of my 23. Think how cool that would look. I did that to my old Annapolis Wherry and it came out great. Why don't you try in next winter and tell us how it came out?
Maybe I should just buy another 23: one to sail and one to work on.
Wrinkles looks great and I look forward to following your sailing adventures on your blog.

The photo of the paint job of 11-June-2012 looks like it has orange peel indicating that the application of paint was a bit too dry. Not enough solvent, or atomization from the gun and that did not give the coating ampale time to lay down and flow out prior to flashing off the solvents.
A wetter coat might have laid down smoother.

Over all I still enjoy looking at the whole job.

skip.

Like I said Skip, I suck at this painting thing.  No excuses, I am just a weekend warrior who shouldn't have a paint gun in his hands.
