I'm not in the market for a new boat and I don't intend to sell mine but I was surfing the Internet and found a dealer that sells made-to-order Com-pac 23/4s.  The base price was over $34,000 and a boat optioned like mine came in at $43,000.  Ouch!  So I'm just wondering . . . are they really that expensive now???

When I bought mine 18 years ago I felt like I was buying a second house so maybe $43,000 is not unreasonable now.  Nevertheless, I was surprised.

Yep.  Before I bought my 23IV which was pushing five years old at the time, I got a copy of the list price for both a current model and the list for the 2005 model.  Optioned for sailaway it was just over $40K in 2005 and about $41.5K in 2009.  $43K list price sailaway today would not surprise me.  Thing is I've never bought a new boat, but suspect it is very much like buying a new car, you don't actually pay list.
