What is the best way to repair a tiller handle that has split or delaminated?

Bob23

I'd try clamping it together using epoxy as the glue. It depends on how bad it is.

or buy a new length of 2x2, drill a couple of holes , paint the color you like.
functional  if not fashionable. 8-)

Bob23

Not real functionable if it breaks.  The laminations in a regular tiller give it lateral strength. Sure, most of the time there's very little pull but under some wind conditions, it can be quite hard. I wouldn't trust a 2x2.

Go with Speakeasy. I did what he suggested and you can't tell that it ever delaminated. And, I'm no pro.

P.S. I used Elmer's Yellow stuff.

Or you can find a new catalina 22 tiller cheap, same design and configure it to you and your boat... I did mine for $60 bucks..

I want to find a peace or galvanized pipe the length of the tiller and per drill it for the two bolts ,to keep for a spare in case the tiller ever breaks I can still sail home.
