Comparison: Victoria 18 and Com Pac 16

I didn't know where else to post.  I do realize I am posting in a com-pac forum.
Does anyone have any experience with both boats?  I'm particularly interested in which of the two are more solidly constructed, and seaworthiness. 

Also, I take it a Victoria 18 would have trouble fitting into a standard sized garage?

I've not sailed either, the Victoria is a handsome boat but I think I would select the Compac with more beam, longer waterline length, and slightly faster theoretical hull speed.

I have to agree with Brack's choice of the Compac over the Victoria, based on my experience and ownership of both brands. I think that the Victoria is solidly constructed with some nice mechanical and esthetic exterior features, as is the Compac. I had a late model Victoria some years ago and was fairly impressed with the workmanship, and very disappointed in the feel of the boat and sailing characteristics. Very tippy when moving about on the boat- had a prospective buyer come to look at the boat and when he stepped aboard, he jumped back off, saying it felt as stable as a dinghy- ie, squirmy underfoot. Hey, it's a small boat........don't jump around too much! The interior was finished rather basically with marginal workmanship, was cramped, and did not have the appeal of my Compacs. The boat was very tender initially and did not take to gusts too well- took a while to harden up and seemed to have too much weather helm. There were things I could have modified to improve the sailing characteristics somewhat, but overall, the boat was not appealing enough to keep. I think that the Compac 19, of which I've had two, is a more apt comparison for the V18, and is head and shoulders above the V18 in sailing characteristics and visual appeal. Of course, it is bigger in all dimensions and would require a bigger garage to put it in..............or sew up a nice cover for her. The victoria 18 is a beautiful boat, I wouldn't even think twice before giving up my compac 16 for the vicky.
I'd add that I think the v18 would teach anyone a whole lot more about sailing in the end. Compacs no doubt are stable in comparison. If the missus sailed with me it'd be a compac, if I sailed alone or with someone who wanted more exhilaration for their efforts, it's the vicky,
Give it half a dozen outings and some serious studying and I'd be glad (I think!).

Yes, if you want a sailing canoe, then sail the 18 foot Victoria.
I'm too old for that heart pounding adventure. She will self right but...ouch

Our STAR BOAT with deck awash in Lake Michigan. Dad and I were caught in a sudden blow about in 1960??? I was like around 9 or 10 maybe. Dad's buddy, Warren, snapped the pic from his Rhodes 19. The boat I later in life crewed on as spinnaker man when racing on Sundays. These days were the days to test ones...well you know.

The dad sold the STAR a kid in a black and pink Nash Metropolitan convertable hooked up to a boat trailer that was cut down from a truck frame with the hitch steering the front trailer wheels. I remember my dad chuckling as he warned the new owner, "Good Luck Stopping Junior."
