I really enjoyed looking at the rebuild of your CP16. I have recently purchased a 1982 CP16 which has not been in the water in over 15 years. I have started the rebuilding process and have found two products that I used on another boat I restored
a 1977 O'Day 22. The interior paint I choose was Rust-oleum Marine Top Side (I used their Oyster White). It works best with two coats and looks like Gel Coat ( It is very hard). Fortunately, the original gel coat has not been painted and I used a product called New Glass 2 contact number 1 800 785 7675 follow the instructions for application you will be amazed. After use of this product you will no longer wax and polish your boat. My 1977 O'Day looks like it just left the factory. My CP16 is responding the same way and this boat sat outside for 10 years. I hope this is helpful and since I have just joined the group I am looking forward to reading the articles.

I used New Glass 2 to restore a 1965 O'Day Daysailer ... the gel coat was too far gone to bring back to life and the New Glass 2 was the best option.  I agree, it is great.  However, my own preference would be to use it only as a last resort, if the gel coat simply will not come back to life due to age or neglect.  Remember, it is a coating (something like Mop 'n Glo floor wax) and it needs to be stripped and re-applied every 4-5 years.

On my "new" 1987 CP-16/II I was initially discouraged that the gel coat would not come back to life with normal rubbing compound, which I have always used in the past.  I took a chance on a product I bought on the web called "Buff Magic".  It is expensive and I was not sure what to expect.  I was quite pleased with the result.  It brought back the shine without the abrasive action of rubbing compound, and it was MUCH easier to apply and buff out ... much like a car wax, but with a deep cleaning and polishing action.

2 years later..... Boat is painted inside and out. Used interlux bright side for the outside, interlux single stage for the interior, interlux non skid paint, 3m 5200 between the hull and deck, a lot of rivets, had the bottom sandblasted, filled more areas with epoxy, sanded, used 4 coats interlux inter protect 2000E covered with a coat of VC-17 and launched her.  Her name is Serenity Now, she is kept at Windjammers Sailing club in Little Suamico, WI. I have had a lot of help from my dad and wife, we had 2 kids and this project is finally out of the garage after a couple slow years. I have the mast up, just picked up sheets, still have to start my 1956 Johnson 3hp Sea Horse.... The side stays seem loose, not enough that things don't seem secure but just they aren't taught and the turnbuckles are completely turned out.... Not sure if others have experience with this. Ill continue to update and maybe get more pics or start a new thread.

Jordan, Luv's your Drafting Kit.
Being a pencil pusher on a drafting table for years is heads above being able to AutoCAD on a 'scope'.
Laying down lead is so much more satisfying.

You have done an outstanding job in lofting, ship fitting, execution, and construction.

Enjoy your new boat.

Salty,  Can you provide make and model of mainsheet block and cam cleat?  I'd love to make that improvement to my 16.  Winded
