It was about this time last year I put my celestial navigation course on this forum.  So I figured I'd bring you up to date on it.  The course is still there, down in the "Articles" section, (CelNav 0, CelNav 1, CelNav 2,...etc) and if any of you decide to work on it, please feel free to write me and ask if you have any questions or need something cleared up.

I did teach the course to one of you who is a neighbor of mine, Robert,  here in Fort Lauderdale, but I was not able to interest any local marine business into sponsoring the course and helping me set up formal classes.  I guess the state of the economy and the easy availability of GPS gear have made CelNav increasingly obsolete in today's boating scene.  That's too bad.  It has certainly been a source of great enjoyment for me.

Tell me, have any of you fellows done any of the lessons?  Let me know. I also don't get a chance to practice much any more, so if any of you lives within commuting distance of Broward County, I would be willing to offer the course
to anyone, free of charge, just to give me a chance to keep my hand in the game.  Drop me a line and let me know if you're interested.  Robert and I would get together on weekends and spent a day practicing and discussing the lessons.  About a half-dozen sessions is required to get through the course.

I didn't realize that it was there.  I have had a sextant for years and used it in teaching trig along with several transits.  I bought tables and a paperback book on celestial navigation a couple of years ago but lost momentum.

I will check out the classes this winter when I can't go sailing.

Thanks for the tip and pointer.
