Com-Pac Draws Attention

Last weekend we traveled to Door County, WI for a few days on the water with our friends and their Hunter 22.  On our first evening, we brought out lawn chairs to sit next to our boats on the dock of the Anderson Municipal Marina and watch the sunset.  As we were settling in, a couple approached us and asked if our boat was a Com-Pac. (We still don't have our name or Com-Pac decal on yet).  They have been researching Com-Pac's for a potential downsize from their 25 foot boat (maybe a Catalina?) and they recognized the lines of the Com-Pac.  That got us talking and sharing stories back and forth.  We invited them on-board for a tour and showed them the modifications that we had made.  They were sold.  We wouldn't be surprised if they bought a Com-Pac in the near future.  Meanwhile, our friend on the Hunter was busy on his boat feeling a little left out.

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend of sailing, exploring, laughing and adventure.  We'll write more about that later.  On our final day, we were at the Old Post Office Restaurant, enjoying a picturesque view of Nicolet Bay while we had breakfast and lamented the fact that we needed to head home.  As we wandered along the water back to our boats we noticed several artists setting up easels and painting.  Door County is a very artsy area and apparently there was some kind of fundraiser going on where the artists are invited in from all over, they paint scenes from Ephraim, and then have a judging at the end of the day.  It was fun to see what they chose to paint - especially as we neared the marina.  There, in the corner by our boat, were three artists set up, two of them painting our boat!  How cool is that?!  We were laughing because we had our laundry out (beach towels over the boom) to dry and they pick our boat to paint.  They both said it was the classic lines of the boat that pulled them in and the fact that it was a boat being used - not just sitting in a slip.

It was entertaining to watch the pictures progress.  We stayed and took some pictures of them painting and then helped our friends take down and pull out their boat.  The artists took pictures of our boat so that we could pull out and they could continue painting after we left.  They both gave us their card and told us to watch on their websites for the pictures to be posted.  Can't wait to see how they turn out.  There's just something about those Com-Pac lines!

It's 'sheer' magic. Those proud high bows and whine glass sterns, typical of the Com-Pac lines always 'gets them'.
Glad you enjoyed our waters and amenities.

Very cool to have your boat picked by not 1 but 2 artists ! Congratulations, make sure you follow up to see the finished work.

Yes, there is something distinctive about those Com-PAC lines, in the short time I've been at my marina I've gotten a few Oooo's & Aaaah's compliments already.

Have fun

awesome! and you still think the 16 looks better?

the ports are nicer on the 19s and the life lines and stern pulpit just reinforce those lines you are talking about.

VIVA the COM-PAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mike just think how cool it would be if you had a clothes line full of you underwear (like sailing pennants). now that would be fine art. too cool to have your boat become a work of art though. those classic lines and little round port lights make up what most people visualize when they think "sailboat".
oday 14 daysailor, chrysler musketeer cat, chrysler mutineer, com-pac 16-1 "kicknbug" renamed "audrey j", catalina capri 18 "audrey j"

Well, I didn't want to embarass  you or break family secrets to the public but the word on the street is that you have your undies made of Sunbrella to match your sail cover! There! Your dark secret is out! If you look closely at the photos, you can just make out Mike's brown Sunbrella thong hanging on the sailcover.
You asked for it!

I was trying to be conservative and kind. I didn't want to get into the number of grommets that Mike has sewn into his undies...or thier purpose. But being a traditionalist, I'm sure they are brass. Further rumor has it that he only washes them once a year- when he sends 'em to Sailcare! I better stop now. I wonder if Brenda was aware of all this? I hope I don't start any inter-Greene family fueds.

People turn to Facebook for entertainment? Why?
This is the place to be!

The only reason I would cause an inter-family incident is because I have completely highjacked ("threads" drift?) my lovely wife's story topic.  You can tell when she posts because it is readable and intelligent, as opposed to my usual jibberish and nonsense.
