Hello...This Friday I take posession of a '78 CP16.  It is the basic entry model and appears to be in good condition due to the current owner providing regular maintenance.  A Honda 2001 2hp 4 stroke is included along with trailer.

My wife and I have a Pearson 26 which we keep on Lake Texoma (Texas/Oklahoma border) and consider that our cabin on the water.  It does however take around 2 1/2 hours to drive there.

I ran across the 16 last week and thought that this would be a great size to use on our local lakes while allowing for trailerability to other areas.  When I first saw the 16 I couldn't help but smile.  The owner said that happens to him too but he has to give her up due to health concerns.  It's an exciting time and I have really been impressed with this site as I have already accessed needed info regarding some work I'll be doing on the 16.

Have a nice evening........ Tom K.

Well she's typically a fine boat for knocking about in. Very salty looking. Traditional, not a current 'spaceship' looking thing. They sail nice too. What kind of work is needed? skip.

I believe the caulk on the port scupper exit on the transom is leaking (more like weeping just a little) when the scupper is below the water line.  I saw a posting on this site last week which leads me to believe the caulk is probably aged and needs some replacing.  Some interior wood may eventually need to be replaced but is fine now.   External teak was replaced by current owner and just needs oiling.  The original paint is flaking on the interior and I'll probably repaint.  Again... not a must right now.  The sails are original yet still in good condition and I'll send them to SailCare to have them refurbished.  Did this with the Pearson26 sails and SailCare did a great job.  Other than that there are just 2 small chips on the bow edge which I'll repair.  I am amazed at the appearance of the gelcoat which doesn't seem to be oxidizing.  I'll repaint the bottom since the owner does that each year.

By the way...  We used to live in Appleton (south of Green Bay).  My wife visits regularly.  Alot of great memories from there.

Have a nice evening.......... Tom.

Welcome to the family of CP 16 owners! Flaking paint and leaking drains, huh? Sounds typical.  Another place to check for leaks is where the tangs for the side stays go through the hull to deck joint. The bedding compound if original is hard and brittle and has long lost the seal. Also, if the PO replaced the teak slides and did not properly caulk, every screw hole will leak. I know because I've BEEN THERE DONE THAT.

These are great little boats.  Enjoy!

We had a 16 for years.  Thoughts.  In puffy weather sail with a hatch board in.  When the rail buries the sea will run below.  We "rebedded " the exit seem of the cockpit skuppers with marine tex.  Sanded and faired they looked like gel coat.

Damsel was a 78  we led all lines aft to harkin jam cleats.  added a reef. She sailed great in a blow with the mai reefed.  The old 16 have no pulpit and are a litle out of balance.  Tune the rig so the mast leans a little forward to help fight weather helm.

enjoy enjoy enjoy

Hi - nice to find another north texas sailor!  My boyfriend and I are about to go in together on a Compac 16 that's a basic (previously was a rental) 77 model.

Just an FYI - you may want to also check out the trailersailor.com website for info on trailerable sailboats - we also do a sailing get together at Texoma in September called BOOTS - it's just a laid back time of enjoying one another's company.  We have it at the Preston Bend recreation area where you can either camp on the boat or rent a campsite.  There's a range from boatless campers, board boat daysailors, bigger daysailors, up to some nice Hunters that came from Lake Arlington last year.

This will be our fourth year and it's September 8th weekend - Generally it's officially that Fri- Sat- Sun, while some come early and others leave late.

Hope you might be able to make it.

Also, we are doing a mini boots thing weekend of April 22nd - not sure if we will bring the compac or our board boats, but we are planning on going.
