Would like to hear opinions.  Live along the southern NC coast.  Made offer on 1993 with new dinghy and 2hp Honda motor, 32k.  Boat looks great with many options, no A/C or cold plate in ice box.  Want to sail ocean near shore just north of the cape fear region.  Weekends occasionally and offshore trips from Wrightsville Beach to Morehead City, approx 65 miles inlet to inlet.  That would probably be the long trip.  Most of the time near shore day sailing and weekending on the hook.  Previous boat was a Catalina 30.  I like the looks,  the shoal draft, and think it fits the description above.  Many times will be soloed and should be easy to handle....  So what do you think?  Does this look like a match?  Does the money seem close.  The boat is neat as a pin and super clean.  Appears to have been well taken care of.  Looking for some opinions.

The boat will do everything you want to do. We have used our boat similarly and it has been great. I say get it, life is short.

Got any photos? I'm about to put my boat on the market and would like to see some comps.

Hi Redfishnc- before you buy the boat for 32K, you might want to get in touch with forum member rao0429 and check out his listing  under the forum category C-27s.........he has a really clean and extremely well equipped 1994 C27 in Barnegat, NJ and was asking 29900. I've personally seen the vessel at Mariner's Marina, and it is very, very nice. Check it out...it might still be available.
As to what you want to use a C27 for, she should be fine for bay work etc., but I would not be comfortable in any kind of extended coastal or offshore work where I was not certain (if that ever happens!) with the weather window. I've sailed a variety of boats in coastal and offshore situations, and I'd rather be in your Catalina 30 than the C27. That said, in spite of its excessive freeboard, the C27 is still the prettier boat. I just wish it had a foot more under water and a foot less out of water, but that was a design compromise made to increase interior volume and keep shoal draft. We love the volume and space for any duration Chesapeake cruises etc, but will probably not take the offshore route to Block I., as we always did in the past with heavier full keel boats. On the other hand, we will not hesitate to take coastal cruises to Cape May and the like.

Hi Redfishnc:
Would have to agree with Peterg, the capabilities of a 27/2 make it a great bay cruiser and with a good weather window a coastal cruiser as well. I never try to be more than a two or maybe three hours from a safe harbor or inlet. After all it is a 6000 lb boat with a relatively short keel. I also would love to have another foot down there, but it's not going to happen. I've taken this boat (Allure) from Narragansett Bay to Providencetown, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Block Island, Eastern Long Island and the Connecticut shore line. I have always felt safe in it and knew I could get back to my home port (Swansea, MA). I would like to have more horsepower (M12 in mine) but will probably be moving up in a few years and not re-powering. I know that 1994 has the bigger diesel and that's a huge plus. The five best things I would look for are:
!: !8 hp diesel (someday you will need it to get someplace safe faster).
2: autopilot (I do a lot of solo sailing and it's a huge help).
3: chartplotter So much easier, (but I still use charts with it).
4: windlass I do a lot of anchoring (80 feet of chain, 120 feet of line and a 22 lb Danforth and I stay put) !!!
5: Furler (should be standard equipment on a 1994).
Of course these are my opinions and may not agree with other sailors thoughts.......
