Snow Storm

Wow!  That was quite a storm!  They kept us at the prison for 32 straight hours without rest or a break (except for lunch) for 4 shifts.  I have a standing post and was there for 24 hours straight before being relieved for chow.  Getting home last night at 11:30pm, I was glad to find my neighbor plowed the snow from our drive.  The snow hadn't piled atop the Starwind 22 in the yard, and I'm hoping that's the case with our Compac that is kept else where.  It won't be until Saturday that I'll have a chance to look at her and hope there isn't 2 feet of snow piled on top.

I hope everyone made it through this storm without injury and all is well.

It's hard to think about spring and sailing when your mailbox is buried under a 5 foot snow drift, and you can't distinguish where the lake ends and the shore begins because the snow is so high!

Very little snow here associated with the storm. But bitter cold. -25 in Buena Vista. Walden was -42 the other night.

Have had a fairly major snow or ice storm here in CT every 4-6 days for the past 5 weeks. (talk about being in a weather patten!) Having the white Christmas was nice, but I am SO ready for spring now ... and its only the first week in Feb!  .... 55 days till the Defender Warehouse Sale, then April and thoughts will turn to getting the Coconut T. in the water for the first time (for me).

We have a house in CT and one on Cape Cod.  The Cape has been getting very little snow and it keeps being followed by rain.  Haven't plowed the driveway yet and only shoveled the deck and the end of the driveway once or twice.  CT keeps getting piles of snow and our plow guy's truck broke down at one point.  My daughter is in VT so I can't complain about snow in CT.  She has a long driveway but shares it with a farmer (though I think he farms as a hobby) who has some earth moving equipment and that equipment works fine with snow.  She's never late for work.

Definitely no sailing in the northeast for a while.

Weather report from South Florida;

Just heard on the news that the state of Florida could be sunned-in for the next several days. Residents have been urged to hunker down at your nearest beach and/or tiki bar for further instructions. Use extreme caution when braving this blizzard of sunshine, preferably SPF30. We are asking our friends and relatives to the north to please keep us in their thoughts as we deal with 2 feet buried in the sand

   You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. I've been there, man, and it's a true life threatening situation. To show my concern, I'm packing up some snow right now and sending it down to you...hold on- it's on it's way.
   Meanwhile, I'd recommend staying over hydrated. Dark and Stormy's are best followed by ample supplies of your favorite beer. Remember, the colder the better.
   Your Northern brothers feel your pain.
