From a post by Rip:  "Hey Curtis, Spotted your website in your reply ref rudder blades. Very informative. I am new around here and maybe you can help me. I tried to send this via email but when I click on the email logo nothing ever happens. Also I was happy to see all the minuses attributed to you. This because I have hardly posted at all and have accumulated minuses though I am a very positive kinda guy! ralph on the Hudson"

Rip,    like you I am new to the post.  At least you have a positive by your name.  Why do we get positives and negatives on this forum.  If we are being GRADED on advice then I am sure if we pass on something someone else knows will not work or will cause damage to our boats or life, then surely they will post back telling us and others not to try this.

I for one, do not know just what the pluses and minuses are for.  Is it good suggestions like I stated above or what?  Maybe someone who has been on this forum for awhile can explain, or maybe one of the many moderators who hand out these + & - .

Billy

agreed, I would like to know what the positives and negatives are for or where they came from (don't need to know from who). If people think I am giving bad advice or someone doesn't agree with me I would like to know as well

Well Billy, maybe we will get an answer this time as there are at least 3 of us who want to know what this is all about.

I'm sure a Moderator will answer your questions, but in the mean time I'll give you my take on it.  If someone posts something you find really interesting, gives you some timely advice, makes you laugh out load, or any other good reason you just click on the + Karma under their avatar.  If you feel someone is being rude, crass, etc... then you can give them - Karma.  I understand that once you click on either + or - you CANNOT take it back, so click carefully.  I don't think anyone really takes them too seriously once  they have posted a few times.  You will be able to tell really easily who the helpful posters are.

Capt K posted this back in '06;

"This board has a "Karma" option. If someone posts some information or a link that you find helpful or enjoyable, you can click on "Good!" to give them a little Karma. Conversely, if they post bad info/links, you can take Karma away by clicking "Tsk Tsk!". Have fun with Karma, but don't abuse it - that's bad Karma! "

Hope this helps. Otherwise hit me up with some TSK! TSK!

Greene,    Well, I'll be Dam_.  Not knowing what the Tsk Tsk was, I clicked on it thinking it would give a description and therefore, gave MYSELF my own negative mark.  If it is impossible to give yourself positive and negative marks, then someone did as you stated.  I thought it was the moderators giving out GRADES(still hating school).

Thanks,  now can I go give myself a bunch of + marks?

Karma is a funny thing, and should not be taken too seriously. A while back a member and I had a bit of a power struggle. He gave me lots of bad Karma, thinking it would somehow hurt my feelings. He is long gone, but I remain. Kurt has had the same process.
So if you can learn why you are displeasing someone and can help- great. If not don't worry about it.
BTW- you cannot give karma to yourself. And it used to be that for the first couple of weeks on the forum, you could not give out bad and good karma. I don't know it that is still true.
Remember- sailing and fixing up your boat is the real fun :)

Billy

I knew why we got them, is there any way we can find out the post that they marked "good" or "tisk tisk"?

Also,
is there anyway we can find out what the "levels" are and how many post there has to be to readch certain status? seems like I've been a helmsman forever!

P.S.
I love this board and I love these boats!!!

Billy,

The more you post, the faster you change your "rank". Karma is just that - Karma. fuggeddaboudit.

I know for a fact that -karma's can be removed. I was foolin' around on the site a while back, you know, pointing the cursor and just clicking on things and I mistakenly gave someone a negative karma who certainly didn't deserve it. Gee, I felt so bad and stated so. Then a kindly moderator, I think,  must have removed it because Presto! it was gone.
I couldn't see giving anyone a negative...If I had something to say to 'em, why I'd just come out and say it. I see I have a few but that's to be expected when someone shoots thier mouth off like I do sometimes.

Bob - I think you deserve lots of good Karma - you've always been a positive voice on this forum.

Just reply with this my friend if any one challenges your good will  - "my karma ran over your dogma"

P.S. Did you say that you may be coming to SW Florida in the near future?

This ought to get me some more minuses...[/font]
I am an old sailor, but new to the Com-Pac world. I use this forum as an information exchange, not as the comedy channel. I don't have much to offer regarding Com-Pacs or trailorable sailboats at this point, and certainly have much to gain. In fact I am very grateful for what you folks have already taught me. I agree with Curtis and Bob23 if you don't agree with something you read then you owe it to other users of the forum to express your opinion. If you do agree that might be worth mentioning too. Billy, I think that the ability to criticize w/o being ID'd is bad news. Based on what I have learned so far about this "karma" thing I will try not to look at it anymore. And if I do happen to notice it, I will remember that it is worthless data. Best all, ralph

Karma, schmarma...it's all about the wind.
Ron:
My daughter just moved to Punta Gorda (arrived 0300 hrs today). She is an independant one who just had to strike out on her own. We are planning a trip down for a visit in January possibly and, yeah, I was gonna look you up. It would be a blast sailing with you and imbibing in a bit 'o the brew with a fellow Compac-ter.
Ralph:
You'll never get a minus from me. Anyone who knows me well knows it takes an awful lot to offend me. And, as a good friend of mine once said "Don't take life so seriously...you may not make it out alive."
