Countdown to spring has begun.  :)

Boat hauling is always a bittersweet time for me also. I'm thinkin' about hauling early (in 2 weeks or so). Life is short, and you never know when that last sail is.
Last year, I didn't haul out until December but that doesn't leave time to mess about in the boat during the winter with "The List". BTW, just how long is it 'till spring?

Took the mast down today and stowed the sheets. Yeah- I have mixed emotions myself.

In Mississippi we are not familiar with the concept of "pulled the boat".  Can you elaborate.:)

Bob23

Yeah, yeah Brack...go ahead and rub it in! Up North here, we get REAL MANS WEATHER!! SNOW!! ICE!! SLEET!! COLD WATER!!  Not yo wimpy Missippi weather. Sure, once in a while you get a little blow that you refer to as a hurricane. Still...wimpy weather for the most part.
Although, pulling the boat could be a slang term for trailering the vessel.

It has something to do with the water becoming "hard".   Countdown is 5.5 months, as of today.  Took the time to varnish the teak and holley sole and sand and rub some teak oil into the exterior wood.

Where is Lewis and Clark lake? I looked on my trusty Wal-mart land chart and even using my led chart magnifier, can't seem to locate it.
Your blog is great. From the shots taken in the cabin, I feel I'm in my own "Koinonia".
Speaking of hard water, I like to be out of the water in October and off to my fall slip in a mirina because the water gets cold and I wade out to my dingy to row out to the mothership. A little too brrrr in November. Last fall, my son waited until December to haul is Irwin Free Spirit (21') and he had to make his way through the slushy ice. I'm afraid in some respects, he takes after his procrastinating father.
Fall winds are upon us but Koinonia has survived 2 1/2 days of high 20's and gusts to 40 mph. I never sleep well when she's out there all alone on her mooring even though my mooring tackle is up to battleship standards.
Best to you as "Pearl" goes into winter hibernation!

( I did some closer searching and found your lake. It looks beautiful. Me, I'm in salt water so it doesn't get so hard so soon.)

What's up one place is down somewhere else. In Florida, my sailing season is just beginning. Summer is too hot with little wind until about 15 minutes before the thundrstorms roll in. Threat of thunderstorms is greatly reduced, starting to get some nice breezes, I think I will go sailing. Don't hate cause I spent the summer reading about how much fun you guys were having.

Grog to ya, Wiggs:
Hoist one for me! We would never hate you. In fact, while we are up here frexing our butts off drinking hot toddys, we'll want to hear about your sailing escapads!

Its the southern most reservoir on the Missouri River, formed above the Gavins Point dam, near Yankton SD.  The marina is in the extreme east end (at the dam) of the lake.  I am not sure how far west you can sail, but the farthest west I have been is about 8 miles.  I hope to pull some of my GPS tracks off the handheld and post them, if I can figure out a way to do it.

Me too...boat is on trailer now, all cleaned up and emptied and stored for the winter. I could have waited a little longer to pull it, but the next month or so will be very busy so decided to pull it early.  Also the water was getting real low and was running out of dock at the ramp.  I suspect in 2 weeks the dock will be 100% on the hard.

It was however a great first year with Island Time and would do it all over again!

I'm with the rest of theFlorida guys here. Just got the boat to the lake last sunday for a gorgeous day of sailing, the wind was 4mph from the NE as we sailed across the lake then about noon the wind died completely, just as we reached the center of the lake, the EVINRUDE 2 got a good workout the rest of the day. HAPPY SAILING (or staying warm) BILL

Tom Ray

Don't know how the other Florida boys missed it, but we actually had a bit of wind and were sailing even in July and August this year. It's getting nicer and nicer now, and will be great sailing through May or so. I'm getting pumped up for the Sun Cat Nationals next month! ;)
