North Carolina and surrounding area Com-Pac sailors...or anyone interested in a spring sail, in my back yard.

I thought I send out a post to see if anyone would be interested in a spring Com-Pac gathering / sail.
I am suggesting a sail from Beaufort to Cape Lookout?

Ready for adventure?

Take a boat trip three miles off-shore, or take the sound side route to the islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore. Here you can enjoy remote beaches, watch wild horses and other wildlife, or visit one of the historic districts. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch for the day. Going camping takes a little more planning."Cape Lookout is part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore and is protected from commercial development.................. an ideal setting for all seashore activities
A boat ride is a must for reaching the area - either your own boat or a ferry. There are also no paved roads, concession stands, bathhouses, camp stores or trash cans in the seashore. Except for the ferry landing areas, the islands are undeveloped and wild.

Anyone intrested? Let me know, I'll be happy to act as trip organizer....Check it out plenty of info on the web about Cape Lookout and the surrounding area.

I'll be an NC Com-Pac owner as of tomorrow, when I pick up my "new to me" '83 CP16. Depending on how my sailing skills progress, I would be very interested in the outing you propose. I'm in Raleigh, by the way. Where are you?

MHardy,

Welcome aboard, you picked the right boat to develop those sailing skills, and you have found the right place to have all your questions answered.
I have found this site to be invaluable source of knowledge filled with friendly folks who, have been there and done that.

I live in Beaufort. Working out of town until Nov. but once I get back , I'll be more than happy to show you around my sailing grounds.

Life's pretty good, and why wouldn't it be? We are pirates, after all.

Count me in...I live in Raleigh but I'm in Atlantic Beach quite often, usually take my CP16 along with me.

Thanks to all,

I am looking forward to spending time with fellow Com-Pac  sailors. I'll start putting a list together...Open to all suggestions. When the time gets near, I will provide detailed information. I'll be happy to help in anyway I can for folks traveling from out of town.

I'd be interested, and would like to hear a bit more.  Spring can be a busy time for me, so participation would depend on dates.  Would like to hear more about tentative course, possible departure points, destination, etc.  Also, would a CP16 be up to the challenge of the offshore course?

Oxford Day

This sounds like a great idea! I have wanted to sail the trip you are talking about for 25 years. I'm in!  I will be watching for more. Bill

I would like to try and make this, coming up from Columbia, SC.
I've been sprucing up the 16 this year and lost impetus (too hot). So having a target to aim for should help me out.

Looking forward to the spring sail....Guess we should come up with a name for this event. I will start gathering some info on the area and post it here, for all to see. I really need to figure out how to attach pictures with the post. If anyone has questions... just ask... I will do my best to get you an answer.

Take care everyone.

Happy Sails to you.

Definitely have interest for spring 2011 in eastern NC - new to the Compac family -  1985 23-2 - Don't have a clue how to make it go yet - but I love looking at her sitting in the driveway everyday when I get home.

Rmotley:
I also have a 1985 23/2 "Koinonia" hull number 321. What number is yours? I have a little clue how to make mine go...you'll be amazed at how wonderful a boat the 23 is! You already know how beautiful she is...enchanting, almost.
Lost:
I'm gonna keep an eye on this topic. Depending on when this takes place, I might just be able to trailer "Koinonia" down from NJ. Heck, it's not that far, right? Plus it would give me an excuse to stop and see my Uncle Jim in Wilmington and tip a few back!

The first mate and I have been talking about taking the boat to the shore one of these days to give Island Time her first taste of salt.  Maybe this will be the time...certainly the place is perfect.  We'll see, it will depend on the dates, our vacation schedule for next year, and if the first mate is ready for such an adventure.

Ahoy Compacers!
Great idea for a trip to Lookout. It would be good to put a face to all these posts I've been reading over the years.  The NCSail pirates group just completed their annual weekend voyage to the Cape.  Check out their site and you'll find pictures of their excursions at ncsail.org
