Here's to a Happy Labor Day to all! Being of a curious lot, I did a quick search as to the orign of Labor Day. Rather than rewrite it here, you can google origin of labor day and learn all about the doings of one Irish immigrant, Peter McQuire. It was interesting. A 100,000 worker strong labor strike in NYC in 1872 was the beginnings of our Labor Day.
Rather than strike, I'm leaning toward a nice sail on my Compac with a few cold beers in the cooler.
A Happy non-labor Labor Day to all you Compac-ers out there! Our weather forecast is for sunny, high 77 East wind 6 to 10 mph which translates to 12 to 18 mph. (They always get it wrong for the wind forecast)
Cheers! Bob23

I went fly fishing with my sons. First time in years. I caught about 10, they both caught nothing...Ha! I guess I am still the wiley old coyote...:)

I spent labor day camping and sailing with my family.  The winds yesterday weren't really all that good and we just ghosted along and enjoyed the water.  But today - just as we were all packed up and ready to load up the boat, the winds got up and they were cranking, before we pulled the boat, we all got in and went for about an hour and a half sail.  Almost got the rail in the water a couple of times.  Had the Admiral sweating.  Great end to a great weekend.

Labor day drifting on Smith Mountain Lake was a good way to end a beautiful weekend. TG

No sailing for me on labor day, ran the 14.2 mile option of "Crazy Jimmy's Tupelo Marathon, "Trample the weak, Hurdle the dead"  race on Sunday and had a start collision that almost made me scratch 50 yards into the race.  Race starts at 5:00 AM (hey, it's the deep south, you have to do something in consideration of the heat).  Pitch black country road start, someone in front of me at the start drops something, turns around, bends over to pick it up and my quad met his head at full stride.  Kept going and ran through the pain.  Ironically, had a PR, finished 25th of 250 with a 1:52:00, first over sixty years old.

Next day, the plan was to sail on Labor day.  No way.  The leg that took the impact couldn't even hold me up.  It was alternating ice and heat all day.  Just barely can walk on it today.

If it wasn't for the PR, I'd be looking for that guy to fight him. :)

LOL, I always said that when I got retired, the only thing I was going to run for anymore is the dinner table.  Ironically, I'm going to have my right knee operated on tomorrow for a cartilage tear that I got crawling around on the boat.

Hey, good luck with that, hope it turns out fine, doesn't keep you down for long.  Contrary to the popular belief, runners are LESS likely to suffer joint damage than non runners.  So I trudge on....

How about bicyclers and runners brach? Or swimmers? ( I would but it just hurts too much to get into cold water) If fact, there is probably alot of exercises that are better for you than boat repair- but none looks as good when you finish. :)

We have some Tri folks in our running club that do all three, but those people ain't quite right.......:)  Hey it's all good, it's just about keeping moving so you can keep moving...

The 14.2 was a pace trial for me mid-training.  I have a Marathon in the fall.  San Antonio Rock and Roll.  It will be my assault on a Boston qualifying time, so the training is fairly serious at this time.  But plenty of time for sailing and the weather here is just getting right for it.
