Are any of you Compac site characters planning to attend the sialboat show at Annapolis, Maryland? This year it's from 10/07 to 10/11. I will probably be there on saturday, 10/09. It would be great to sit down with some of you and share a burger and beer.
Compac usually has a small out of the water exhibit at least one of the "brothers" is there. We've been down there a number of times and it's always great, even the year when there was a raging nor'easter!
Post back here, mates in the coming weeks- this could be a great out-of-the-water mini compac rondayvoo!

(Post script: I just checked the site for the show and noticed that Compac is not listed. May it never be! Maybe they haven't signed up yet)
(Pospost script: Oh yes they are...I always forget they are listed as Hutchins Co. Inc.)

No can do this year will be climbing to the top of Mt Leconte that week.  Reservations at the Leconte Lodge are extraordinarily hard to get, the Admiral spent hours on the phone during the open res times almost a year ago, so got to make the climb.

Too far away. May do the All Sail Boat Show at Chicago's Navy Pier about the first week in February. Burrrrrrr!

I really would like an opportunity to meet some of the old salts from this site. I have hung out on the sidelines for several years now and look forward to one day putting  faces with names. But as it stands I'll be spending that weekend in sunny South West Asia, supporting our young freedom fighters as they do their thing.

Bob23 if  the  raging nor'easter you mentioned was in 2001, I was there. My sailing buddy and I walked about the boat show on Saturday morning and thought:  humm... good wind, why are we looking at boats when we could be out sailing. We loaded up my old CP19 Sanity and set a course for St Michaels, beyond doubt a great day of sailing we hit all points of sail on the 25 mile excursion. Shortly after arriving we found a pleasant gunk hole cove and set out 2 anchors, Bahamian style. The night was spent, playing guitar and enjoying a couple bottles wine.   Our plan was to rise before dawn and set sails or motor sail making it home before the heavy weather set in. But even the most calculated plans sometimes never work out the way you thought they would. To make a long story a bit longer, we rounded the Blood Point light heading directly into the heart of the Chesapeake Bay, and found ourselves facing steady winds of 35 knots often gusting to 50  dead on the bow, along with 5 to 6 foot wind swells tightly packed together as they funneled down the Bay. We dropped our sails and fired up the steadfast 5 hp Honda and chugged along. One after the other my Com-Pac would climb her way up the face of the wave and then race down into the troth as we slowly made our way back to Eastport. I believe the air temperatures were in the  45 degree  range while a tempest of rain poured down. Life vest on and tethered to the stern rail, I never felt unsafe in my Sanity, I have read numerous times on this site that, these boats can take a lot more than we can. This was the voyage that convinced me of that statement.

I eluded to this trip on one of Skip's recent post and like I stated there: My friend Randy and I were out there living the dream, which is the place where all good sailing stories come from.

I hope to meet you all one day. Have a great time and enjoy the show.

Yeah, It might have been 2001. I remember it was cold, and a classic nor'easter. My friend Kevin (aka K3vin on the site) went down with just shorts and a t shirt and floze his transom off! Fortunately, I had extra rain gear so he survived just fine.
I hope some of you Compac- ers can  make it. If not, I'll try to do a thorough report!

Will make it one year, but not this one.  Having been in the deep south so long, I consider myself a naturalized Southerner.  But I have roots to that area and would like to go back and make the "roots" tour.  My Dad was born and raised in Eastport. Born in the Philadelphia naval yard hospital,  I lived in Annapolis, Bainbridge, and Severna Park at various times.  Went to school in Elkton and Perryville.  My Grandfather was a Master at Arms at the Naval Academy in the late fifties and sixties.

Be nice to revisit all the old haunts.  Maybe next year.

Bob23

Ok, now: There must be someone out there in CPYOA-land that will be there. How 'bout if I agree to buy the first round?

Man, you guys are lucky. The nearest boat show to me, you would be hard pressed to to even find a sail. Tons of fishing boats, ski boats, party barges sure no problem. Then wayy in the corner somewhere you'll find a few Lasers, a couple other sailing dingies, the Ranger sailing club display and oh ya the RC sailboats. They used to have quite a few. Guess it reflects the market 'round here though. I don't even bother to go anymore.

Know what has disappeared from sail boat shows? --->French made ETAPS. Made so they can't sink for those sailors who at times may find themselves in a sticky wicket situation.

Anybody find some somewhere?

Mel:
Yes, we are lucky. Annapolis is reportedly the largest in-water sailboat show in the world. I don't know if that's true but it sounds impressive. Usually, either Gerry or Rich are there so it's always nice to meet them (again) and thank them for building such great boats.
Annapolis is also home to Fawcett Marine Supplies so in wandering around the docks after a burger and beer, we usually end up there buying some widget or another.
For me, it's a long day trip, taking about 2 1/2 hours to get there by Tundra but more time to get home due to East bound traffic out of Annapolis. Stay tuned for more!

I will not be there this year but am definitely considering making a trip out there next year.

Bob, I like mustard and ketchup on my burger...keep one warm for me 'til next year!

You show up next year and the burger and beers on me! Assuming we are all still able to go!

If you look under the exhibitors portion of the Annapolis Sailboat Show, Hutchins is listed.  I do believe Tred Avon Yacht Sales, Oxford, MD, will be bringing the Com-Pac models for the show.  They are local dealer who routinely does it in Annapolis.
