Final Sail On Puppy Luff

Well today was a bittersweet day of sailing.  Brenda and I took our beloved little CP16 Puppy Luff out for one last sail before looking for a new home for her.  The day was sunny and beautiful with enough wind to sail, but just barely.  7-9 MPH winds moved us along well enough to move about Lake Monona and enjoy the feel of her lovely tiller in our hands one last time.  She has been a great boat, teaching us what she could along the way and forgiving us for our novice abilities.

As we were coming into the docks a gentleman on a very nice wooden canoe paddled up to ask who the manufacturer of our boat was.  We explained that it was a very well made shoal draft cruiser made by Com-Pac.  He said he had been admiring the beautiful blue hulled sailboat all afternoon and just had to paddle over to see her up close.  We thanked him and explained that it was our final sail on her as we had purchased her big sister.  His eyes lit up and he asked how much we would be asking for her.  He paddled around the entire time we pulled her out of the water and prepped her for the short trip home.  Actually saying out loud to someone that it was our final sail on her definitely hit a tender spot.  I had to put on my sunglasses as soon as we got in the van to conceal the watering of my eyes.

Thank you Puppy Luff for treating us so well.

Mike and Brenda

Mike and Brenda:
I know how you feel. When the new owner was about to leave with my SeaPearl, I found it to be a very emotional time. Wierd, they are just inanimate things made of fiberglass but somewhere along the way, they take on a personality. My emotional state must have shown because the new owner, understandingly asked if I needed a few moments alone. " I'll be ok" was my reply.
If I ever had to sell "Koinonia" I'd be real selective about who I'd sell her to. Just having the money is not the main qualification. She (and Puppy Luff) has to go to a good home.

Radicalcy

I just delivered my C16 on Saturday to her new owner. I'd never had a chance to sail her, and it was still an emotional moment. I put hours and hours into upgrades and spiffing her up.
So tell me about Puppy Luff?

I hear ya! When I sold my CP-16 it was my first sailboat. I loved that boat. I had my new Catalina sitting there to look at but I lost a few tears over my 16! Man drove from Portland Oregon to Colorado to buy it from me. We exchange a few notes from time to time. He is having a blast on her which is good to hear! I really miss that boat to this day...

someone is going to get one very nice 16 to be sure. reminds me of the day i sold my 37 chevy pickup. to this day i regret that one, being a much better mechanic now. like a sailboat i think an old unique vehicle takes on a life of its own, i used to talk to that old truck----stuff like  start you son of a ----- or come on baby you can make it. stuff like that. anyway dry those tears and make that rudder for puppy luff two.

Thanks Kickingbug,

I also regret selling my '46 Chevy Pick up when I went off to college.  I spent a ridiculous number of hours working on that ol' truck before I turned 16.  I remember working on the truck in high school with my high school sweetheart sitting in the shade watching me.  (Yes, that was Admiral Brenda.)

We just have to remind ourselves of all the great new memories we have yet to create.

After reading these posts I have decided I aint selling my 16 EVER!

Greene-

Tough to say goodbye to these boats, no question.  Try to sell it to someone you know so you can perhaps sail on it now and then.

P.S.  Love the blue hull.  P. Luff will make the new owner quite happy I suspect!

OK you guys, your bring up old memories, I would much rather be reading about and "welcoming new Com Pac owners" to the site then reading these tear jerkers.
