CPYOA needs help...

I just realized the domain expired 1 month ago (oops), and GoDaddy is wanting to charge me $99 (that I don't really have to spare...) to renew it (blackmail...grrr).

For the last couple of years I've kept things going pretty much, but I have been just too busy trying to make my own personal ends meet to really give the CPYOA the attention it deserves, despite the best intentions.

See my post below... :)

So... This ship needs a new home... Is there anyone out there who has the experience to skipper her to a new port? Interested parties - please contact me via sailorkurt AT gmail DOT com. I will be looking for someone with experience re: websites/BBS/forum/etc, in order to ensure that the CPYOA members do get a good experience down the road. :)

As far as the Forum here, along with the database of all of your posts: It is hosted outside the CPYOA domain, so is not affected by the above, and it will stay in place until such time as it becomes efficacious to transfer it to the new owner(s). :)

I don't have any web experience or knowledge but would be willing to contribute to keep it running until a long term solution can be found.

I've just sent email to Kurt.  I can pick this up.

I've renewed the domain name, so that is all good and we are covered for the next year. As far as on an ongoing basis, I gave this a lot of thought yesterday and last night. Curtis offered to foot the bill even before this (what a guy! :) Y'all should give him some good Karma! ), but rather than rely on the good graces of just one person to finance the domain name and/or site long term, there are enough people here that I think a community effort to take care of that would be a better answer.

To that end, AFTER I get the site back to full functioning for y'all, I'll put up a 'donations' button/link, where folks who feel so inclined can contribute a little to the pot if and when they'd like. More on that later, after I get the details figured out - it is something which I will give much more thought to and explanation of, before implementation.

WRT the hosting of the site - the server space needed - I can continue to provide that, and in fact that might be the easiest thing to do, since the server is configured for this forum software and the gallery software etc...

What is really needed is someone(s) willing to take the helm with the day-to-day management of the site; someone willing to keep an eye on things, deal with new registration requests every day, wear the Sherrif's badge in the Forum ;D, that sort of thing. This is the most important aspect of all WRT the running of the site.

One member contacted me about this already; I will sound him out about being the lead person for this. But ideally there will be a Team - several CP owners working in concert, as a crew - to keep things going, active, and updated here. The commitment is for 1)a little time, and 2) a little learning.

You don't need to know how to write code or read hexadecimal, but it would help if you are fairly comfortable when using the computer, knowledgeable about how to get day-to-day work done on one is enough. If you volunteer only to find out that it is too much, that is no problem.

Anyway - I have to go get ready for a sailing lesson I am doing this afternoon, but wanted to post the above so that y'all would know what is going on, and could give it some consideration.

Have a great day, and fair winds!

We are there with you Kurt. I have some basic knowledge of programming, and I love my little CP 23. Perhaps we could get a little team going, with each of us taking shifts to patrol the site and do the basic business. I think you have earned the arm-chair position. Just give us help when we get in over our heads...
How about it? Anybody else willing to team up and selflessly give Kurt a break? (He will still be in charge)
BTW- the first thing I think we need to do is reimburse Kurt for the 99 bucks. I will speak out for 20 right here. Four more and we have a team of moderators...

Newt/Mark is the person I referenced in my last post who had volunteered to help a couple months back, so -

Y'all say Hello to the newest CPYOA Moderator. :D

No need to jump on the donations train just yet, lol. I want to get some other more basic things sorted first, before dealing with implementing that. :)

Kurt,

I've been computer savvy for the last 30 years or so, work from my home generally, and would like to offer my services as part of the moderator team.
