Thought some of you would appreciate this drawing from a Harper's Weekly dated August 27, 1870.
It is titled "THE RACE FOR THE QUEEN'S CUP - ROUNDING THE LIGHT SHIP."  The ships names are listed as CAMBRIA, MADGIE, PHANTOM, LIGHT SHIP, SILVIE, AMERICA, DAUNTLESS, IDLER, MAGIC and TIDAL WAVE. (Left to Right)

The article read;
THE YACHT RACE;
Our illustration of the Yacht Race for the Queen's Cup shows the winning yacht, Magic on the home stretch, after passing the light ship, which is visible near the extreme left of the picture.  She leads the Idler by several hundred yards; and directly astern of the latter vessel Dauntless, which eventually overhauled her and came in only five minutes behind the winning yacht.
The race was the most exciting one ever witnessed in American waters. The bay was covered with steamers and sailing vessels of every description, and it is estimated that the contest was witnessed by over a hundred thousand people, whose interest was heightened by the fact that among the contestants for the prize were the celebrated yacht America, the winner of the International race of 1851, and the Cambria which has just won the ocean race with the Dauntless.  The Magic, one of the fastest yachts in the world, made the race in about three hours and fifty-eight minutes.

I may have to keep that issue of Harpers for myself.
