I removed the original from my boat and sent it to be repaired. The repair person has disappeared. So..what I need to know is what kind of Alternator are folks using now that would fit in the same spot? Brand, model etc.

Thank you.

That really sucks! This will not be a cheap replacement I'm thinking.
I found this place in FL.

Click on the alternator pic then scoll down to number 60108. It looks like the replacement for the original Motorola 51 amp.
Better yet give them a call.

You got me on the hunt now, I'll keep digging.

Found another source, give these guys a call.

OK last one. This place had a search function that asked for engine manufacturer, model and year and gave the part. $180

Look an Alternator is a Alternator. [That's the throw-a-way line every good story has, some call it the hook].

Why not go to NAPA, or AutoZone, or any of hundreds of autoparts houses and pick an alternator that has the same amps at 12~14 volt that was 'lost'?
Make some brackets and hang it back on the engine still driven by the same vee-belt.

Now bare in mind that to have an 'output' you'll need an 'input' with an alternator; unlike a generator that will make juice-out as she spins with no 'juice-in'.

Here is a 6 volt positive ground alternator on the 1930 Ford Model "A" that replaced the 6v + ground generator.  Note the simple wiring. Two!
It would be the same for the boat.

I used the same Delco-Remy brand alt when I converted my 1957 CJ 3A Jeep from 6 volt generator to 12 volt alt. The alt puts out a few more amps and at a lower [idel] rpm.

The conversion is rather simple.
