Did you guys know that you can change your username under your profile?  As I've sold the 16 and acquired a 19 I figured my username should be updated.  And it worked!

Now just have to think of a new boat name...

Salty:
You are a genius! I didn't know one could do that. Good thing because if I buy a 27 or a 19 then a name change will be in order.
Remember when you change the name of the vessel, certain rituals should be observed. If on the hard, you should walk around it counter-clockwise twice. In the water, rowing will do. There are other rituals that more informed sailors here on the site will inform you of. I personally like spilling a bit of the Captains favorite beer on the bow.
   Congratulations on the new boat.

Frank, check CP 19 for my post about naming.......beer on bow is all that is needed on boats 24 foot and down,Wisconsin rule.......Phil

Congratulations on the new boat, If I could move up the 19 would be my choice. What is the year and condition. HAPPY SAILING   BILL

There seem to be a lot of postings on the web related to renaming a boat.  I thought this one worth sharing:

http://www.globalpsychics.com/amusing-you/superstition/boat.shtml

I renamed my new to me C16 last summer without any fanfare... but maybe I should reconsider and do it right next summer before I lose another shroud, or bust another sheer pin...?

In all seriousness, my fellow Compactors:
When I changed the name of my 1985 23/2 "Septembers Love" (WHAT were they thinking?) to "Koinonia" I performed none of the rituals at all. And have had no misfortunes whaatsoever. I am not superstitious at all and, more importantly, "Koinonia" isn't either. She told me so.
But you should do what you feel is right. Me, I'm gonna sail!

Interesting note about the username change.  I have to log in still as Salty16,  but it shows as Salty 19 in posts and in the "hello" area (top left pane).   Weird.

Still thinking about the new boat name.  We like the old name, but it's just not "us".   Actually I've delgated that task to my wife to come up with ideas to share. I suspect we'll come up with something soon.  A dual counterclockwise rotation with beer spillage on the bow seems to be an appropriate measure to take.   I will try that on Friday next time I see the boat (it's at my brothers across town at the moment).

Thanks for the link, Steve (and Phil in the other post). If nothing else it will provide some entertainment!

Bill, it's a 1998 CP19XL first sailed in 2003.   It also has several factory options I haven't heard folks talking about including stern rail seats and custom hull color/interior fabric.  Really aside from the hull being oxidized and the woodwork needs restored, there is nothing else to do on it...except wait for spring and go sailing!

Steve,

Yes, I agree...sounds like you needed to follow the ritual.  The gods have spoken! Twice!

Well here is the before and after (only one side restored thus far) of the new boat!

Cleaned but very oxidized..

Cleaned, removed stickers, wetsanding 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit, 3M Rubbing Compound twice, 3M Finnese It II twice. Haven't waxed, awaiting Collinite Fleet Paste in the mail.   Actually I may go back and wetsand some more along the rubrail-miised some spots. Big difference, huh?  And NO POLIGLO so it will last provided I keep up on the wax.

Check that shine and stern rail seat with beer cupholders!

Still have the other side to go. Unfortunately the bottom will get painted next year though.

Looks beautiful.  First blue hull I've seen... Seems like a sin to paint her.  Are you keeping her at a slip?

David and all:
That's right. To call them beer holders might imply what we drink beer while out sailing and that's illegal. (Hold on while I put the phone down, I'm passing a cop.) Those holes might be called "sustaining beverage and provision containment recesses". Or beer holders. Or coffee holders. The real question is, what kind of beer will be held?
   Beautiful boat...what a color. What a find!
Bob23

Tim Gardner

Hmmm.  Bob, You might need to sail here in VA.  Not illegal to have beer holders with beer in them here.  It just illegal to be intoxicated while skippering (or driving) said boat.  Sustaining Beverage Holders indeed.

With all due (hic) respect,

Does this mean that I will have to hide my hands, because I believe they are the real SUSTAINING BEVERAGE HOLDERS. Have to hide my beer belly next....Phil

Thanks, guys...lot's of work to make the finish look like that!

The hull color, blended into the gelcoat at the factory, is a "Miami" style teal. It looks better in person than in the pictures.

Yes, I rent a slip at the local city marina during the season. I would love to not paint the bottom as it's in such nice shape but unless I haul it monthly to clean/wax I don't see another choice.    Thinking about going with VC17 in black but still plenty of time to decide.
