i read somewhere i think on the sailboat company website that the standing rigging on a 19 can be changed to a much more managable rig like that on a 16. they removed the spreader and backstay and repositioned the chainplates aft to create a three point attachment for the mast. it seems that this would make rigging much easier and make the 19 more of a trailerable sailboat. has anyone done this or seen it done?

Don't sound like a good idea to me. We have a four point attachment for the rig. And the placement of the side shrouds is behind the mast so she'll lower without disassembly. The only thing to do is loosen the back stay enough to unhook the fwd stay. I have not taken my side stays off in years. Why change what a Marine Designer made?
Especially the part about moving the chainplates...gotta seal that back up.
skip.

I wouldn't think that it would be a good idea. The lower shrouds and the spreaders are designed to keep the mast in column under some pretty heavy loads. You are flying a lot more sail area than a 16. I'd think you would bend your mast without lowers. Moving the chain plates changes the physics of load distribution to a location on the hull/deck that wasn't reinforced for those loads.  That might also cause some major issues... I'd hate to see you dismasted or wounded.

appreciate the feedback from everyone. i think im trying to justify buying a 19 but  in reality the cp 16 i have fills the bill rather nicely---thanks again

I understand where you are coming from.  I down sized from a 23' Hunter last Fall.  I miss the cabin a lot.  You could sleep four in there comfortably.  She was faster and the cockpit was more comfortable too.  On the other hand, I was mostly sailing along after the kids went off to college and we weren't sleeping on it anymore anyhow.  The 16 works very well for me too.  I'd have probably bought a 19 if one in good condition had come up for sale before my 16 did but, in the end, probably just as well. The 16 fits perfectly in the garage and is a piece of cake to rig, launch, sail and retrieve single handed.
